Job Description
Overview:
The Salvation Army Alton Corps is looking for someone who desires to be part of a team who are "Doing the Most Good". We're looking for Youth Ministries Program/Community Center Director to join our team. This is a salaried position that comes with a great benefits package that includes medical, dental, and life insurance, 12 paid holidays a year, vacation time, sick time, and is eligible for participation in the company funded pension plan after one year of service. This position pays $35,568.00.

This is a ministry position which oversees, coordinates, and facilitates all activities pertaining to the community center and youth ministries to older adults ministries.

Responsibilities:
1. Plan, develop and organize ministries and programs for all ages, suitable to the Mission and Vision of Alton Corps.

2. Assist Corps Officers in overseeing, developing, leading and/or recruiting leaders for youth ministries and programs.

3. Develop a visitation and outreach program for the community and its environs.

4. Supervise designated after-school, evening and summer youth activities.

5. Facilitate the planning, coordinating, and conducting of Vacation Bible School.

6. Attend the Corps on Sundays, recruit Sunday school teachers and teach where needed.

7. Assist in the development of a long range plan for all youth activities, emphasizing spiritually sensitive program development and growth.

8. Keep accurate records for the Community Center/Gym, ministries, and programs for statistical purposes. Money collected, names & addresses of all who attend ministries and programs must be recorded.

9. Maintain a Master Schedule of Community Center/Gym activities and coordinate requests for use of the Community Center/gym by outside groups.

10. Engage in bridging clients from Community Center/Gym to corps spiritual ministries and programs. Be familiar with The Salvation Army social services and spiritual ministries and programs and make referrals and inclusions as needed.

Qualifications:
High School/GED and two (2) years college in a related area and three (3) years working experience with youth, adult and/or senior groups preferred; empathy for problems of all age groups, and knowledge of forces which impact them. Combination of training and experience will be considered. Familiar with philosophies, standards and methods developed in The Salvation Army. Proven supervisory and management skills with the ability to train and lead staff and/or volunteers. Good written and oral communications skills. Be a team player, a self-starter, able to handle several projects at the same time and perform well with minimum supervision. Demonstrate ability to think independently and exercise sound judgment. Ability to initiate, develop, and follow through with new and current programs. Computer literate and willing to learn and use new programs that would be beneficial for the ministry. Appropriate driver’s licenses (10 or more passenger vehicles require a “JO2" designation for Illinois. Must be 21 to obtain a JO2 license.) and pass TSA MVR check. Must be enthusiastic, friendly, and outgoing. Must be a certified in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid.
