WSI Lifeguards (Water Safety Instructor Certified) create and maintain a safe public swimming and general pool environment. They are also responsible for providing instructions in aquatic programs including swimming lessons.
All applicants must be 16 years of age or older. Essential Functions
Under the direction of the Head Lifeguard, WSI Lifeguards are responsible for:
Overseeing activities at aquatic facility.
Explaining and enforcing rules, regulations and policies to ensure safety of patrons.
Monitoring designated areas to recognize signs of danger.
Warning swimmers regarding unsafe situations.
Maintaining order in swimming areas.
Responding to emergencies and rescuing swimmers in danger of drowning.
Performing first aid procedures.
Maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of all areas.
Maintaining records and reports.
Instruction aquatic programing
Teaching Swim Lessons
All other duties as assigned
Candidates must have or be willing to complete Lifeguarding, Water Safety Instructor, First Aid, and CPR certification. Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Ability to pass a pre-employment practical skills test in the water
Ability to work on weekends and evenings
Ability to interact with a wide range of diverse individuals
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
Skilled in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques
Knowledge of aquatic programs and swimming instruction techniques
Ability to instruct classes, including swim lessons. Physical Requirements
All applicants must have or be able to secure lifeguard and WSI certification.
Lifeguard Certification requirements include but are not limited to:
The ability to swim 300 yards continuously using breaststroke or front crawl
This position is for an outdoor pool, candidates may be subject to inclement weather including heat and rain.
