Associated Students (AS) is a comprehensive campus auxiliary corporation of CSU, Chico serving thousands of students, faculty, staff and community members through myriad student programs, services and business enterprises. AS operates residential and retail dining services, the Bell Memorial Union (BMU), and the Wildcat Recreation Center (WREC). Additionally, the AS offers a wide variety of services and programs such as: CAVE (Community Action Volunteers in Education), the Child Development Lab, Adventure Outings, Operation Programs and Services (OPS), Sustainability and student government.
Associated Students is now hiring for the position of WREC Student Group Exercise Instructor . This is a part-time, non-benefited student position that will work no more than 20 hours per week while school is in session. The pay rate is $14.35 -$14.71 per hour. The pay rate effective 1/1/22 will be $15.00-$15.76 per hour. The schedule for this position is based upon department needs and is subject to change at any time. To be eligible for student employment, you must be enrolled at CSU, Chico and maintain at least 6 units (undergraduate student) or 4 units (graduate student) throughout the course of employment.

Wildcat Recreation Center (WREC) Student Group Exercise Instructor
SUMMARY
Lead group exercise classes ranging in variety and level such as, indoor cycling, interval training, dance, Mixed Martial Arts and Yoga. Instructors will develop and organize choreography, movement sequencing, cueing and safety. Instructors must be energetic and motivating and have excellent communication skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Lead energizing, fun, safe and inclusive group classes for the Wildcat Recreation Center
- Exhibit strong interpersonal communication skills, demonstrate a commitment to leadership and customer service
- Create a welcoming class environment for all fitness levels, encourage and motivate class members
- Arrive a minimum of 10 minutes before the start time of scheduled class to prepare set-up and greet participants
- Meet with participants before and after class to answer questions and maintain a positive exercise experience
- Keep accurate attendance records
- Maintain a strong working relationship with the WREC GX team and WREC staff, act as a substitute instructor whenever possible, support with special events
- Attend required trainings, workshops and staff meetings
- Communicate with the supervisor when unsafe conditions occur, report equipment in need of repair to appropriate people
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of fitness equipment in the AV cabinets, storage closets and on the floor

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in the Wildcat Recreation Center and possibly outside environments; continuous contact with staff, campus community and public
TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to participate in sometimes strenuous fitness and wellness related activities. Stand for extended periods; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; verbal communication. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of:
- Working knowledge of human anatomy, Kinesiology and training principles of fitness and group exercise
- General health and wellness
- Group Exercise programming
Ability to:
- Demonstrate leadership and adaptability in front of a large group
- incorporate cueing, choreography and transitional movements into a safe, effective class
- Record accurate attendance numbers for every class using a personal device or the devices provided within the WREC
- Record work attendance using a time clock
- Teach classes using a microphone; assist in the maintenance and care of AV equipment
- Provide music that falls within the appropriate guidelines of the WREC
- Check email and app communication regularly and respond within a timely manner
- Report maintenance and safety issues through technical and verbal communication
- Follow safety protocol at all times, respond to emergency situations
- Maintain current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- First Aid and CPR/AED certifications must be current or obtained within 30 days of hire
- Must complete WREC Instructor Training Program within 30 days of hire
- Previous experience participating in or leading group exercise classes within the WREC or an outside facility
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
- Fitness or wellness-related certification from a nationally recognized organization
- If applying for Yoga: 200 hour RYT training, registered member of Yoga Alliance
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Currently enrolled in a minimum of 6 units (undergraduate) or 4 units (graduate) at California State University, Chico
