Pay Range: Starts at $10.00 per hour, depending on experience

Position Summary:

Consistent with the Christian mission and vision of the YMCA of Middle TN, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Wellness Director, the Wellness Floor Attendant will be responsible for the activity in the Wellness Center and will follow all health and fitness guidelines set by this Association. This individual will provide excellent customer service in a safe, enjoyable, and positive atmosphere that promotes member wellness.

Essential Functions:

  • Model the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility
  • Provide courteous, prompt and sincere attention to members, guests, participants and staff
  • Communicate and enforce policies and guidelines for the equipment area
  • Check the appointment book and initial your appointments at the beginning of shift; meet appointment at check-in desk
  • Conduct wellness evaluation and program recommendations for all new members
  • Monitor Wellness Center; communicate with members offering suggestion to enhance member workouts, correction of bad form, and providing spots; provide equipment and strength training orientations
  • Schedule follow-up appointments with members to ensure they are getting the most out of their YMCA membership
  • Maintain a safe, clean and functional exercise equipment area
  • Document any accidents/injuries/incidents
  • Record daily use statistics
  • Work closely with Wellness Director and Group Fitness Coordinator to provide a premier member experience
  • Offer creative ideas and changes to the Wellness Director to constantly monitor and improve the YMCA Wellness program
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions; keep all certifications current
  • Assist with special events
Minimum Requirements

Qualifications:

Passion, enthusiasm, and commitment to the mission and cause of the YMCA

An enthusiastic personality with the desire to serve members, volunteers, guests, participants and staff to create a culture of service within our Centers

Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community

  • Must present a professional image and possess conflict resolution skills, and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative
  • Must be highly organized with the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous customer service experience a plus
  • Fitness or athletic training experience preferred

Certifications Required:

  • Before start of 1st shift: New Hire Orientation training
  • Before start of 1st shift: Basic Life Support, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen
  • Within 90 days of hire: Orientation to Healthy Living at the Y, Foundations of Listen First, Principles of Member Health and Wellness, Wellness Center at the Y, Foundations of Strength and Conditioning at the Y
