Salary Range:
$20.00 per hour minimum
Work Location:
Primary work location is at the Water Treatment Plant, located at Marquette, Kansas, in addition to
monitoring of pump stations, water towers, and assistance, and on-call rotations.
Travel Requirements:
Some limited travel, primarily for training may be required.
Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Superintendent, the Water Treatment Plant Operator position
involves skilled and specialized work in connection with water filtration and pumping to provide
safe drinking water. This positon is responsible for the production of safe, clean drinking water
at our water treatment plant.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Basic hand tools, diagnostic tools, calculator, computer, printers, copiers, analytical laboratory
equipment, and other facility-specific equipment and chemicals.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific
vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral
vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Requires moderate physical effort working
regularly with lightweight materials and occasionally with heavy weight materials (over 60 pounds,
and frequently over 100 pounds) including but not limited to walking, talking, climbing, balancing,
stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting, hoisted, pushing and pulling.
The candidate must be at least 18 years of age.
Environmental Conditions:
Work is conducted both indoors and outdoors under variable weather conditions. Frequently works
near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to noise, wet and/or humid conditions,
fumes or airborne particles, vibration, risk of electrical shock and toxic or caustic chemicals.
Rural Water District No. 1 Ellsworth County, Kansas (a/k/a Post Rock Rural Water District) is
seeking interested candidate for a full-time Operator to work at the Water Treatment Plant. As
one of the largest rural water districts in Kansas, Post Rock offers competitive wages and
excellent benefits. The ideal candidate is a quick learner, excellent computer skills, and detail
oriented. This position will be responsible to produce safe, clean drinking water at our water
treatment plant located in Marquette, Kansas. He/she must be a self-starter and able to work
independently with limited supervision. The candidate must be at least 18 years of age, possess a
valid driver’s license, and an insurable driving record. This position does require evening,
weekend, and on-call responsibilities. A full pre-employment screening will be conducted
following a conditional offer of employment. Compensation will be based on certifications, with

- Operates pumps, control panels, chlorinators, dry and liquid chemical feeders, filters and other
routine laboratory analysis.
- Regulates addition of such chemicals as chlorine to water as necessary; keeps records of
- Makes periodic rounds of plant checking charts on level gauges and flow meters; maintains
- Oversees the proper functioning of pumps, motors, instrumentation, filters and chemical
- Maintains operational parameters as specified by the Operator of Record, Superintendent, or
- Checks equipment and records data;
- Monitors SCADA and recording equipment and determines usage or flow;
- Collects samples from designated points;
- Performs routine physical and chemical analyses, records results or takes samples to the lab
- Makes adjustments to operating equipment and notifies superiors of need for repair work;
- Keeps chemical feeders stocked;
- Keeps basins free from foreign matter;

- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School diploma or General
