Job Description

The Warehouse, Packaging, and Shipping (WPS) Operator is responsible for a variety of activities that may include but not limited to ensuring the proper operation of all the packaging systems and ancillary equipment, proper filling of bags, loading, sampling, moving railcars, and filling bulk trucks to ensure personnel safety & environmental compliance, process efficiency, product quality and cost effectiveness. Inspects, monitors, and performs minor maintenance on equipment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work in a safe manner. Actively participates in and supports Cabot's Safety, Health, and Environmental programs. Attends scheduled team meetings and completes safety training requirements. Keeps work area safe and clean.
  • Follows work instructions, procedures, and policies.
  • Ensure the proper packaging/bagging, storing, labeling, loading and unloading of the final products.
  • Moves railcars with switch engine (trackmobile).
  • Collect final product samples for Quality Control testing.
  • Maintain and continuously improve upon knowledge of all processes and equipment.
  • Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot the process using Work Instructions and Product Quality Control Plans.
  • Performs general and supportive preventative maintenance activities on all process and support equipment.
  • Use the computerized business management system to enter work orders and document work performed.
  • Supports efforts to implement and maintain the Responsible Care® and ISO Management Systems in line with the requirements of the RC14001® and ISO9001 technical specifications.
  • Completes all required reports, records, and measurements, i.e. SH&E incident reporting, production records, etc.
  • Able to work different shift schedules and overtime when required, able to respond to call outs, as well as attending the required safety training (off-shift). Currently, working 12 hour rotating shifts which includes alternating between working 2 weeks days and 2 weeks nights.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Preferred industrial or chemical manufacturing experience.
  • Willing and able to work collaboratively in a team-based environment. Strong written and verbal communication and active listening skills. Able to work independently as well. Self-motivated with a track record of dependability including work history.
  • A proven positive safety, health, and environmental record. Familiar with topics such as personal protective equipment, confined space entry, lockout / tagout, hot work, safe work permitting, emergency response, and hazard awareness.
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting, problem solve, process control, and process improvements. Able to read and interpret complex operating instructions.
  • Accurate and consistent in performing tasks. General mechanical aptitude. Familiar with safe and effective use of basic hand tools.
  • Ability to remain calm and react effectively in critical situations. Experience with accident and near miss reporting, incident investigation, and accountability to standards
  • Effective time management, organizational, and record keeping skills. Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook (e-mail program).
  • Ability to safely operate material handling equipment such as fork lifts, aerial work platforms, and switch engine (trackmobile).
  • Flexible in performing changing assignments and work schedules. May be required to work off-shift hours.
  • Physical requirements include but not limited to being able to lift 50 lbs., able to stand for extended periods of time, going up and down stairs repeatedly, outdoor work, working at heights from scaffold, ladders, and/or grating, use of hand tools, and able to wear a respirator.
