Job SummaryThe Chief of Staff is a senior level role that directly supports and acts as a strategic thought partner to the Chief Executive Officer of Compass Community Living. As the Chief of Staff, you will provide critical strategic, logistical and organizational support to the CEO. Your primary focus is to assist in executing business and operational strategies throughout the business units through effective communications with other executives and team members, diligent program management, and the research and tracking of key initiatives.
This role has a high level of visibility with the executive leadership team, and will have access to highly confidential business and operational strategy. This is a highly strategic and facilitative role that requires a combination of focus and flexibility, as well as a willingness to play an active behind the scenes role at Compass Community Living.
.The ideal candidate should possess excellent communication and organizational skills and should be detail-oriented, proactive, creative and passionate about exceeding client expectations every day. You must possess a high degree of professional maturity and discretion. They will be able to juggle competing priorities and help the CEO perform at his best by providing a sounding board, an empathetic ear, and push back as needed.
.The Chief of Staff’s primary areas of responsibility include:
Organizational Accountability and Compass Community Living Initiatives
- Provide support to the CEO by driving special projects related to business strategies. Requires a significant amount of influence with key executive leaders across the sector and key external stakeholders.
- Translate strategy into corporate agenda and operational reality, breaking down strategies or business initiatives into key projects and tasks with associated responsibilities.
- Works to implement the corporate agenda by serving as lead project manager for initiatives and tasks advancing strategies.
- Develop and maintain strong, trusting relationships with senior leaders throughout the organization as well as with external stakeholders.
- Drives initiatives sponsored by the CEO. This requires a significant amount of coordination with internal and external stakeholders, representing the organization.
- Develop and communicate key components of project objectives and recommendations across the organization. Works with the communications team department and others to prepare the CEO for meetings with various constituents, including external audiences.
- Manage operations for the CEO. In partnership with the Executive Assistant to the CEO, optimize time management of the CEO in and outside the office.
- Maintain continuous lines of communication, keeping the CEO informed of all critical issues. Partner with internal teams to oversee preparation of briefing materials for the CEO.
- Disseminate information on behalf of the CEO. Author executive communications on behalf of the CEO, working with external and internal resources.
- Attend and participate in internal and external meetings representing the CEO, as needed.
- Manage the cadence, effectiveness and efficiency of executive and leadership meetings. Compile reports, ad hoc presentations, briefings and communications for internal and external stakeholders.
- Plan and execute leadership events such as offsite and leadership team meetings.
- Perform management responsibilities including, but not limited to: involvement in hiring and termination decisions; coaching and development; rewards and recognition; performance management and staff productivity. Plan, organize, staff, direct and control day-to-day operations of the department; develop and implement policies and programs as necessary; may have budgetary responsibility and authority.
- Partners with the CEO’s executive assistant to ensure that the CEO is delivering on his intentions in terms of spending time with key populations in the organization
Qualifications:
- 5 - 7 years of relevant work experience
- 5 - 7 years in the hospitality industry preferred
- Highly developed strategic and analytical thinking and conceptualization of problems
- Highly-developed communications skills (written/verbal) and interpersonal savvy
- Ability to maintain iron-clad confidentiality
- Good sense of self and strong personal presence
- Proven track record of effectively interacting with executive and senior management
- Comfortable dealing with ambiguity
- World-class project management skills
- Organizationally savvy
- Meticulous attention to details
- High degree of integrity and trustworthiness
- Ability to work collaboratively across the organization
- Composed in high-pressure situations
- Self-motivated proven problem solver
- Not afraid of hard work and occasional odd hours this is not a 9 to 5 job
- Ability to travel approximately 25%-50%
- Bachelor’s Degree required, MBA or other graduate degree desired
- Consulting experience preferred
