Eliem Therapeutics is a privately-held clinical-stage company developing medicines for patients with neurologic diseases. Our pipeline has two clinical stage compounds in conditions focused on pain and other neurological conditions. The company continues to grow its preclinical pipeline in neurology.

Eliem launched in 2018 and has funding from leading healthcare investors including RA Capital, Access Biotechnology, and Bridge Valley Ventures. The company has locations in the Greater Seattle Area, WA and Cambridge, UK.

About this role:
The Vice President of Accounting (“VP, Accounting”) is a newly created position at Eliem, responsible for the financial management, internal controls, and compliance to support our growing business. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”), the VP, Accounting is responsible for leading the accounting team and overseeing all accounting-related activities, including preparation of timely and accurate financial statements, internal controls, tax compliance, risk management, insurance, and technical accounting and analysis. The role will evolve to have SEC reporting responsibilities as well.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic direction and day to day oversight of accounting operations (Accounts Payable,
  • Payroll, Stock Plan Administration, and General Accounting).
  • Build a team to meet the needs of a growing and changing company.
  • Enhance and maintain financial management systems and infrastructure that support the current and future organization.
  • Oversee the annual audit and quarterly reviews to ensure the timely filing of all reports required by the SEC.
  • Manage relationship with independent accountants.
  • Evolve internal control environment in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley.
  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP and ultimately SEC reporting guidelines.
  • Support the CFO to ensure appropriate readiness for future financings, including potential initial public offering (IPO)
  • In cooperation with the CFO, establish Audit Committee and lead the process for preparing materials for and conducting meetings.
  • Analyze and document conclusions for complex and technical accounting issues.
  • Ensure tax compliance across all jurisdictions.
  • Engage external experts to develop appropriate tax planning strategies.
  • Work with EVP, General Counsel to maintain adequate levels of insurance based on its exposure and risk profile.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
  • Current CPA licensure required
  • 10-15 years of experience building, leading, and managing the accounting function
  • Big 4 accounting experience preferred
  • Public company experience required
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology industry preferred
  • Experience consolidating UK entity a plus

Skill and Knowledge:

  • Solid understanding and experience with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Maintains the highest levels of ethics and integrity

Pay: $250,000.00 - $275,000.00 per year
