Veterinary Surgical Center of Portland is looking for that person who knows specialty veterinary surgical procedures and processes backward, forwards, and inside out! We're looking for the best of the best, the cream of the crop, the shiniest star, the sharpest of sharp.

As a Veterinary Technician, you will:
Restrain patients keeping low stress handling in mind. Take vital signs
Phlebotomy: able to collect samples and perform subjective and non-subjective lab work
Calculate and administer medication as directed by a veterinarian (PO, IV, SC, IM)
Place intravenous catheters, urinary catheters, central venous lines
Perform bandaging, suturing, and suture removal as directed
Anticipate DVM needs and prepare supplies for procedures
Scrub in and act as a sterile assistant in surgery
Induce anesthesia and intubation. Monitor anesthesia using multi-parameter monitoring equipment
Set up the surgery suite as needed for soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries
Maintain a safe, secure, healthy, and humane environment by cleaning, sterilizing and wrapping instruments, disinfecting surgery suites and patient cages/kennels, storing sterile supplies, verifying shelf life, following standards and procedures
Maintain pet comfort pre- and post-op by measuring vital signs and alerting the veterinarian of any changes. Closely observe animals for any change in condition.
Maintain pet records by documenting conditions, reactions and changes
Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities
Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications and skills
Certified/Licensed/Registered Veterinary Technician; eligible for licensure in Oregon or experienced Vet Assistant
Knowledge of animal behavior and husbandry
Documentation skills, analytical skills, clinical skills
Use of medical technologies
Ability to learn and utilize veterinary software programs
Attention to detail, patience, and strong verbal communication skills
