Job Description

The Veterinary Assistant has one or more years of experience in the veterinary field or has graduated from an AVMA accredited college. In this position, an individual can perform specific clinical procedures and tasks under the guidance of a Licensed Veterinary Technician or Clinician. This position has mastered basic animal husbandry and are then trained to perform/assist in hands on treatment and care of the patient.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute treatment orders from the DVM
  • Perform blood draws
  • Collect urine samples – void, express, cystocentesis
  • Administer medications – PO, IM, SQ, SL, IV
  • Calculate medications mg/kg
  • Create a dosing schedule from the DVM orders
  • Monitor anesthesia, maintain, record, recovery
  • Client communication – Triage, treatment plans, discharge patients
  • Take Radiographs, CBC, Chem, LYTES, Perform and read urinalysis
  • Restrain animals
  • Outpatient procedures
  • Fill prescribed medications

Requirements:

  • 1 plus year veterinary experience or education
