Expectations of a High School Dance Coach
Job Goals:
Motivate, develop, monitor, and supervise Dance Team.
Build relationships with and have a willingness to coach both beginner and advanced dancers.
Instruct dancers in fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.
Instruct and guide dancers to lead them to the formulation and enhancement of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, self-confidence and good sportsmanship.
Performance Responsibilities:
Cooperate in a timely manner with the School Athletic Office and the District Athletic Department in regard to required information (i.e, Rosters, Parent Forms, Medical Emergency Forms, etc. and any other pertinent information that might be required.
Meet all requirements of the District Board of Education and the Ohio Department of Education relative to Coaching Certificates and Pupils Activity Permit.
Model the behavior expected of our dancers, including timeliness to practices, being positive and enthusiastic in practices, respectful of our dancers, practice constructive criticism, while upholding the discipline of the program.
Set a positive example at all times while with dancers and is appropriately dressed at all practices and games. Develop respect through his/her example in appearance, behavior, language and conduct at all times. Maintain suitable conduct including the use of appropriate language at all times with respect to players, officials, public, parents, and fans. etc.
Follow CPS Policy as outlined in Coaches Handbook. Meet all criteria as outlined in the job description.
Check on the status of academic eligibility for all prospective dancers. Recognize the need to be aware of and implement all applicable administrative policies set forth by the District Board of Education, Superintendent of Schools, School Principals, Conference Leagues, and the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA).
Begin pre-season practices on the first day permitted for that sport by the OHSAA.
Provide all applicable in-season training rules as well as any that may apply to out-of-season conduct to team members in writing prior to the start of the season. Follow appropriate due process procedures when violations occur.
Accept and profit from constructive criticism and suggestions for improving coaching performance.
Participate in clinics and other available programs to improve coaching performance.
Participate in School Events (Awards Night, Pep Assemblies, Athletic Boosters Meetings, etc.).
Show physical vitality and enthusiasm for the sport and use good judgment in decision-making.
Is competent in techniques of the sport and dancers respond positively to directions given. Demonstrate the ability to adapt properly to changing game situations.
Is well-versed and knowledgeable in matters pertaining to dancet as well as look at ways to constantly improve knowledge and coaching techniques.
Is innovative in using new coaching techniques and ideas in addition to already proven methods of coaching.
Provides motivation for team to meet/exceed their goals and stress the value of acceptable personal behavior by each dancer.
Ensure team is well prepared.
Actively promote good sportsmanship at all times.
Maintain accurate inventory of equipment and supplies.
Skills/Essential Functions:

Demonstrated knowledge of skills associated with this activity.
Ability to communicate effectively with student-athletes, fans, officials, parents, etc.
Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
TRAINING/CERTIFICATION:
Ohio Secondary Teaching Certificate preferred.
Successful participation in a similar activity in high school and/or college. Evidence of successful past coaching experience at the high school or college level is desired.
Provide a satisfactory result on a County Police Records Check, State BCII Check, and FBI Fingerpring Background Check. Possess an Ohio Department of Education Pupils Activity Permit. Provide proof of current C.P.R.and First Aid Certifications. Provide satisfactory completion of the National Federation of High School Associations (NFHSlearn.com) Fundamentals of Coaching and Concussions Courses. Provide completion of Ohio Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) Coaches Training/Certification. Provide satisfactory completion of COVID-19 Training/Certificate.
CONTRACT PROVISIONS:
TYPE OF CONTRACT: Supplemental Annual Limited
SALARY: Per Schedule E of current C.F.T. Labor Agreement
