Job Description

An Usher/Ticket Taker has various duties-some of these duties make this position the second person that the customers see upon their arrival and the last they see as they depart the movie from their auditorium.

Ticket Takers need to always greet the customer in a friendly manner, verify and/or tear their ticket along with directing them to their auditorium. Ticket Takers also may make suggestions regarding specials at the concession stand.

Ushers show patrons to their seats, help patrons find lost items and attempt to control unruly behavior. Ushers deal with food or drink spills and check restrooms. Ushers set-up barriers to hold back those waiting to see the show and keep order. In a crisis, ushers keep order and help to prevent panic. If necessary they direct patrons to exit the theatre in an orderly fashion.

To perform the job, ticket takers/ushers should be able to be on their feet during the entire working period, have a clear voice for giving instruction, possess good telephone skills for when people call for information, be able to hear or lip read adequately and have the physical strength to help others in the event of an emergency.


Ticket takers and ushers must be able to maneuver up and down the aisles and inside each row of seats, open auditorium doors and be able to assist patrons and their needs. They are required to reach, bend and lift with cleaning the auditoriums as well as they assist in the maintenance of the theatre. They may need to climb a ladder to change film titles on the marquee or replace light bulbs. The usher/ticket taker assist concession stand when instructed by management.

Additional Job Requirements:

Employee must be able to read, write and receive instructions and communicate in English; must be able to stand up to at least 4 hours at a time; must be able to lift up to 50 pounds; and must be able to use a ladder or other means to clean and/or change signs.
