Looking for a new and exciting opportunity to change the future of Spine Surgery? Join Medtronic Spine and Biologics as an Upstream Product Manager with the Surgical Synergy Spine Team. This unique team combines our spinal systems and procedures with our market leading Enabling Technology and Data Solutions. We are looking for a passionate, motivated, high energy, strategic marketer to lead new and innovative projects for enhancing our Spine Portfolio through Digital Solutions. In this role you will collaborate with HCP customers, our other Cranial and Spinal Technology Operating Units and various functions, including Regional Downstream Marketing across the globe, R&D, Regulatory, Clinical, Supply Chain, Finance and other functional areas, to understand and define customer VOC, project specifications, and strategic commercial planning.

The Spine and Biologics business is headquartered in Memphis, TN. This role can be located in either Memphis or Louisville, Colorado.

A Day in the Life

  • Drive new global programs/projects from the development of the initial business case, evaluate project feasibility, and commercialization following Medtronic’s global commercialization process.
  • Conduct market, sales and financial analysis, including health economic value assessment for current and/or new markets, products and procedure opportunities.
  • Work with the Market insights and analytics group, R&D and regional downstream marketing to develop market/product research plans to generate and confirm clinical needs and customer requirements.
  • Work with Regional Downstream Marketing to both identify unmet downstream marketing needs and manage the launch and release of new products, markets and product claims (includes regional launch support, initial training, etc.). Identify and plan the Product Lifecycle evolution for the portfolio.
  • Provide global society trade show and locally hosted programs (i.e. CEP- customer experience program) support as needed. Utilize the opportunity at these events to understand and confirm market and clinical research trends.
  • Conduct competitive position analysis of company products/procedures and recommend product styling, quality changes, inventory allocation, and price structures.
  • Ability to learn and understand technical aspects of procedures/therapies from basic science, anatomy and read published clinical articles and interpret results.
  • Develop marketing deliverables as defined by Medtronic’s global commercialization process such as Marketing Materials (i.e. surgical technique, patient brochures, etc.), Set Configurations, List Price Implementation, etc.
  • Evaluate Reimbursement Strategies to align portfolio decisions.
  • Collaborate with key surgeons on development ideas, existing product improvements, and clinical data
  • Collect VOC and VOB for new and existing product lines
  • Manage day to day responsibilities for the assigned products in a Global capacity.

  • Formulates and reviews corporate short and long-range plans, goals, and objectives for specific product or product line.
  • Determines the profitability and viability of new products or product enhancements.
  • Develops production and marketing strategies and tactics to ensure effective product placement relative to market opportunity, working closely with product development for a specific product, brand, or product area over its entire life cycle.
  • Works with other functions to finalize product specifications.
  • Serves as technical support, demonstrating products and troubleshooting product issues.
  • Travel 25-30%, both domestic and international
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
To be considered these minimum qualifications must be evident on your resume
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in marketing, engineering, clinical, science or technology, or 2+ years of relevant experience with a Master’s degree
Nice to Have
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, or Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or related field
  • MBA in business or marketing preferred
  • Experience in digital health platforms is a plus
  • Ability to multi-task while working in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong collaboration skills working with various stakeholders across multiple organizations
  • Experience learning technical products quickly
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills: ability to convey complex information in a simple and effective manner
  • Knowledge of Orthopedics and/or Spine a plus
  • Experience in an upstream marketing organization
