Job Description
Summary: The Science Teacher will create content in the use of science inquiry skills and concepts; motivating each student to understand grade level science topics, across the subject areas of physical science, life science, earth science, and engineering. Prepare and deliver awareness of the role of science in economic and social progress; to motivate each students to acquire knowledge of scientific facts and principles, and skills in scientific methods of problem solving.Major Responsibilities:
  • Instruct students about scientific attitudes through courses in general science, earth sciences, biology and science problems solving
  • Plans a science program involving demonstration, presentation, discussions, and student experiments
  • Help students to implement independence in developing their own scientific processes, from basic skills, to analyzing data, to fully internalizing the scientific method;
  • Demonstrates scientific concepts by use of scientific gear, experiments, and standard or prepared charts, sketches, and other instructional aides.
  • Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students and employs a variety of instructional techniques and media.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Strive to implement by instruction and action of BRCPSs philosophy of education, instructional goals, and objectives.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, school policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Working as a team member, sharing common planning, professional development, curriculum design, and teaching responsibilities
  • Work under the general supervision of the Upper School and or other designated administrator, manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attend staff meetings and serves on staff committee as required.
  • Morning Duty: Includes active supervision of hallways and classroom.
  • Afternoon Duty: Includes active supervision of dismissal process.
  • Additional duties may be assigned without additional compensation or stipend
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree (Required) Masters Degree (Preferred)
  • Commitment to ensuring academic success for all students
  • Deep understanding of evidence based practices for teaching in social studies. Knowledge of best practices for assessing student progress toward achievement of standard.
  • Experience working in an urban setting, preferred
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, preferred
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply student performance data to instructional planning and execution
Required license(s)/MTELs: DESE Teaching License in Science 5-8 and SEI Endorsement. OrPassing the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL), this includes a passing score on the Communication and Literacy Skills test and a passing score on the relevant subject matter knowledge test(s)
