Job Description

Per the new state mandate San Diego Imaging and Sharp and Children’s MRI Center require proof of COVID vaccine as a condition of employment. Medical or religious exemptions are available for those who qualify.

Summary: The Ultrasound Technologist will perform day-to-day activities of ultrasound imaging, including ultrasound related procedures. Perform a wide variety of technical procedures with quality patient care, assisting Physicians as needed. Communicate findings to Radiologists as appropriate.

This will be achieved by performing the following duties.

Essential Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Demonstrates skill in the use of sensitive ultrasonography equipment to obtain accurate and meaningful results. Obtain the patient's history and show a correlation of the clinical history with the test performed. Communicates effectively with radiologists about the effects of ultrasound exams.
  • Obtains the highest quality images possible, assuring the anatomical area of interest is captured on a model as completely as possible.
  • Practices sterile and isolation techniques are resulting in the prevention of cross-contamination and infection. Maintains cleanliness and disinfects equipment, supplies, and rooms as needed
  • With the assistance of the radiologists, develop, implement, and communicate ultrasonography techniques with all Ultrasound Technologists.
  • Facilitate referring physicians' requests.
  • Maintains a high quality of patient care.
  • Ensures the patient flow within the department is constant and organized.
  • Communicates in a positive and timely manner with co-workers, physicians, patients, and visitors.
  • Demonstrates skills in the proficient use of PACS and RIS.
  • Maintains equipment calibration by performing quality control tests according to established procedures and frequency schedule.
  • Maintains equipment and orders supplies when needed.
  • Assists in training new Ultrasound Technologists, as needed.
  • Adheres to departmental Policy, Procedures, and guidelines. (E.g. dress code, standard precautions)
  • Ensures compliance with State and Federal regulations.

  • Education and Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); successful completion of radiology technologist educational program with two to four years related experience and/or training in outpatient Radiology.
  • Licensure and Certification: Current Certification with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) for subspecialties in Vascular, Abdomen, and OB exams.
  • Language Skills: Must possess the ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Must possess the ability to write simple correspondences. Must possess the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
