Job Description
Major/Essential Functions
Project summary: The Postdoctoral Research Associate will use a variety of data to perform hierarchical prioritization of a conservation network (Native Fish Conservation Areas) for species of greatest conservation need. These conservation networks are a primary tool in multi-species stream conservation used to guide the long-term focus for management and conservation efforts.
Responsibilities: 1) Conduct research related to developing species distribution models within and outside of Native Fish Conservation Area network, especially for at-risk species (SGCN)
2) Refine hierarchical spatial prioritization with a focus on flowing systems and multi-species representation
3) Coordinate the use of supporting datasets and research products with conservation stakeholders
Predict the distribution of fish species across geographic space and time from environmental data using GIS and statistical programming software and advanced quantitative techniques.
Refine hierarchical spatial prioritization with a focus on flowing systems and multi-species representation of biodiversity.
Coordinate the use of supporting datasets and research products with conservation stakeholders .
Present research results at professional meetings and agency workgroups.
Publish results in peer reviewed journals.
Required Qualifications
PhD in area of project specialization Knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources, and standards thereof. Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities. Occasional Duties
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of GIS and ability to use GIS software for data visualization (i.e. mapping) and/or spatial analysis
Knowledge of and ability to use programming languages and coding skills (e.g. software program R, Python)
Knowledge of Statistics and ability to create models and perform advanced data analyses for occurence data (e.g. general linearized models, hierarchical models, multivariate methods)
Ability to lead the design, execution and communication of research with moderate supervision
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of aquatic ecology, river systems, aquatic organisms, conservation and management, community ecology, diversity and distributions of species.
Ability to organize, manage, and curate research data (esp. ability to find, retrieve, and work with diverse datasets, and use relational databases)
