Job Description

This role of TTS DGO Deputy is specific to Treasury & Trade Solutions (TTS), Digital Channels & Data, and is focused on supporting the Data Governance Strategy for the TTS business globally. At the highest level the role will ensure TTS complies with Citi’s data management policy and data standards.

As client, business, and regulatory requirements continue to increase demand for high quality data (complete, accurate, timely, and consistent) Data Governance has become increasingly important for successful execution of the TTS business lines. As such, TTS is looking for a highly motivated, self-starting Deputy DGO who is ready to take on the challenges of working in a fast-paced and global environment and contributing to TTS’ continuing business success.

The individual will perform TTS Data Governance Officer activities as deputy and program manage a portfolio of regulatory-driven and Chief Data Governance Office-sponsored data policy programs. In addition to program management, the role will require that the individual to become a subject matter expert in Data Governance, Policy and Standards. There is also an expectation that, through day-to-day execution of the role, that deep knowledge of TTS’ business processes, technology, and data elements will be gained.

Position Objective

The main function of the Data Governance Officer (DGO) Deputy will be to support DGO drive the ownership, oversight and responsibility of key data governance and management practices and activities across the TTS organization as outlined in the Citi Data Management Policy. The DGO Deputy will ensure the TTS organization is always reporting on, and making decisions with, complete, accurate and consistent data that can be traced all the way back to its original source. The DGO Deputy has a direct reporting relationship to the DGO. DGO Deputy is responsible for overall governance of the data management efforts executed within the TTS organization including proactively identifying gaps in data management capabilities, remediation of data quality issues, data quality metrics monitoring, Data Quality Program execution, and supporting the business in its understanding of risk, regulatory, and management reporting requirements.

In addition, the individual will be responsible for delivering significant business initiatives within the TTS Data Governance team. The successful candidate will be part of TTS Data Governance Office and will work with TTS Product, Compliance, Risk, Finance, Operations, and Technology teams as well as Chief Data Governance Office (CDGO) to deliver strategic, regulatory, and data policy-driven initiatives which support the TTS business globally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and chair the TTS Data Governance Council forum with representation from the Product Data Governance Officers (PDGOs) across TTS Businesses, Regions, and our Finance, Risk, and Operations and Technology partners. Activities include:
  • Set direction, priorities and confirm appropriate resources are available to support Data Governance objectives.
  • Assess and monitor compliance with the CDMP and associated data standards in TTS
  • Support implementation of the data management practices across TTS including resolving Business issues, reviewing data quality metrics, and identifying / reporting on actions and status
  • Discuss strategy, execution, and key deliverables of the Data Quality Program and provide stakeholder updates received from Chief Data Governance Office (CDGO) on Data quality programs
  • Support TTS business maintenance of process flows, data quality rules, and system lineage as well as review and report on the effectiveness of enterprise data standards, including quality assurance of maintenance of system lineage, data quality rules, and data issue remediation.
  • Develop and manage detailed project plans for all Data Governance initiatives, including ability to have rollup level of project milestones.
  • Proactively manage and report on programs including escalation of risks and issues that may impact delivery
  • Facilitate and coordinate effective communication between and across key stakeholders to enable efficient execution of program goals:
  • Deliver regular status reporting to management and key stakeholders through a comprehensive program governance structure, supporting a continual technology & operations delivery schedule.
  • Evaluate and communicate any possible risks and issues to the completion of the project tasks.
  • Organize, lead and facilitate project-related meetings, including the creation of agendas and preparation of materials.
  • Escalate issues and manage prioritization as needed.
  • Partner with the Chief Data Governance Office (CDGO) to provide constructive feedback on Citi-wide processes and for implementation of policies and procedures contained in the Citi Data Management Policy (CDMP).
  • Partner with TTS Lines of Business, Finance, Risk, Operations, and Technology to learn more about business processes, ensure adherence to the CDMP, and to consistently track the progress of the Data governance programs and work slate.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, process risks, capability gaps, and emerging risks and communicate accordingly with the business program owner and TTS DGO.
  • Facilitate use of Program Management best practices and apply appropriate governance structure across all work streams

Development Value

The Data Governance Officer Deputy is a crucial TTS role and will afford the candidate high visibility both across both TTS and Citi. The candidate will further develop their knowledge of Citi’s Data Management Policy, Global Cash Management, Commercial Cards, Trade businesses, and Product innovation & development (inclusive of data management), and leverage this knowledge to both identify and resolve data and control issues, and to drive cultural change.

The individual will gain senior management visibility and increasing responsibility commensurate with capabilities, drive, and performance. Broad exposure to the CDGO, to other Citi business lines, and to the Global Functions will enable significant knowledge acquisition and expansion across multiple facets of the TTS product lines/businesses.

The role is uniquely positioned within the organization to learn the entire end-to-end operation of the business and thus allow the Deputy DGO to influence change that can have positive impacts to our key data stakeholders including clients, business managers, and regulators. As such this role has high expectations around management effectiveness and delivery.

The Deputy DGO will have access to the most senior levels of management within TTS and across ICG. The candidate will learn a tremendous amount about the Citi business overall, and will become an integral part of shaping the way Citi will operate in the future. Success gained in this role will open doors to achieving long term professional growth both within and outside of TTS.

Knowledge/Experience

  • Experience in Data Governance and Data Management, ideally having 7-10 years’ experience working with large global or regional data programs.
  • 5-10 years ideally in Financial or Treasury Management experience (focus on the Banking Book products)
  • Strong Program and Project Management skills – 5 to 7 years’ experience.
  • Prior experience delivering large multi-stream projects or programs.
  • Solid Business Analyst experience (resolving DQ issues, writing BRDs, process re-engineering) supporting Business, Risk or Finance – 3-5 years.
  • Strong leadership skills attained through on-the-job experience
  • Effective verbal/written communication and presentation skills are a must.
  • Experience producing high quality communication materials and presenting to Senior Stakeholders
  • Cash Management product knowledge across Deposits/Liquidity, Trade (LCs, loans, commitments), Commercial Cards, and Payments & Receivable is preferred.
  • Experience in, or interacting with, Global Functions such as Risk, Finance or Compliance preferred
