Job Description

We are hiring for full-time, Class A CDL Drivers, to join the Transportation Team of the Operations department at Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle TN.

What you’ll do:

Summary: Travel throughout local middle and west Tennessee service area picking up food donations from retail stores and food distributors and/or making food deliveries to Partner Agencies and rural communities. Drives safely and defensively, maintains equipment function, and observes all company and DOT required safety policies, laws and practices. Be respected as part of a team that serves 46 counties throughout middle TN.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a professional ambassador for Second Harvest in the community. Drivers are “the face of the food bank” for our donors and partners. Developing relationships to further our community impact is critical. Our trailers are vividly wrapped with branding and photos, so are always very noticeable.
  • Physically touches freight to organize trailer of food throughout the day. Actively and consistently lifts 50+ pounds of freight (typically boxes of food) at stops throughout day. This is not dock to dock sitting-only driving work.
  • Utilizes equipment to load and unload truck and maneuvers product with lift gate, dollies, and pallet jacks.

When & Where: Regular schedule will be DAY shift, Monday - Friday with early start times working primarily out of our distribution center in Nashville, TN. Over-time is common, but not guaranteed and Saturday work is offered when available. Regularly encounters inside and outside environments as well as temperature-controlled zones of freezers (-10 degrees) and coolers (30-40 degrees).

Is this you?

·Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (ex: GED) required.

·Experience: Minimum of 1 year of professional driving experience operating a CMV required.

·Skills: safe operation of CMV,physical ability for heavy labor work,customer service orientation, compassionate & professional demeanor, exceptional attention to detail. Food industry and forklift experience preferred.

·Other requirements: our pre-hire process requires acceptable results from the following: criminal background, Motor Vehicle Record and a pre-employment drug test. Current and valid CDL Driver’s License, DOT Medical Card and automobile insurance are also required. Criminal backgrounds are evaluated on a case by case basis considering several factors (timing, frequency, severity and job relation).
