Job Description

  • JOB SUMMARY
    • The Trauma Coordinator is responsible for the essential functions of coordinating MHSC trauma program. These functions are associated with trauma program coordination as defined by the State of Wyoming trauma standards and American College of Surgeons Trauma standards. The Trauma Coordinator works in conjunction with the Director, the Trauma Program Medical Director, other physicians and providers. The Trauma Coordinator has access to all levels of leadership and medical staff within MHSC to accomplish the goals of the trauma program. The overall job of the coordinator is to: Organize the program and systems related to trauma in coordination of the direction of the trauma program at MHSC. Facilitates trauma committee meetings. Responsible for inputting and using data in the Wyoming Trauma Registry. Serves as a resource for hospital staff regarding trauma care issues. Responsible for ongoing quality performance improvement processes related to trauma care. Coordinates optimal care for trauma patients through establishing processes and standards through which trauma care can be provided. Establishes and uses reporting mechanism and completes all reporting requirements to the State. Provides for quality measures and goals to be accomplished. Participates in local, state, and national activities that promote and pertain to trauma care.
    • As a Registered Nurses (RN), the Trauma Coordinator provides professional nursing care to patients or population of patients through the application of the nursing process, standards of practice and adherence to regulatory and professional practice acts. As an RN, the Trauma Coordinator is accountable for practicing within their scope of practice. As a RN, the Trauma Coordinator is responsible for their practice under their own RN licensure and they may oversight care for certified nursing assistants. As a RN, the Trauma Coordinator may delegate care to qualified individuals depending on practice standards of the organization
  • JOB QUALIFICATIONS
    • Education:
      • High School diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. The accredited school is defined as the specific school of nursing accreditation which is commonly either NLNAC and/or CCNE. The School of Nursing degree can be an Associate Degree in Nursing or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Preferred degree is the Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and this can be attained after hire and is encouraged. The Trauma Nurse Coordinator may also have an advanced degree in nursing at the masters or doctoral level. Currently licensed and in good standing as a Registered Nurse by the Wyoming State Board of Nursing. Competency requirements are determined per clinical areas and trauma standards. Requirements for BLS, ACLS, TNCC, NRP, ONS Provider Course or others are determined per clinical area. Certification in trauma specialty is encouraged.

      • Job Knowledge and Skills:
      • Ability to demonstrate clinical competency and proficiency commensurate with specialty and according to years of experience as a Trauma Nurse Coordinator. Demonstrates excellent communication skills and customer service skills. Demonstrates abilities to manage work processes, collaborates as a team member, manages time, provides skills with work organization, and has ability to contribute to work processes related to the professional aspects of nursing. The Trauma Coordinator will be able to provide clinical excellence, teach patients and others, professionally demonstrate abilities in conduct and commitment, and participate in evidence-based practices, research, advances in nursing and clinical care and participation in quality improvements and outcomes. Communication and collaboration skills with physicians and other staff are required. Trauma Coordinator must be able to display critical and creative thinking and problem solving. The Trauma Coordinator will be self-motivated and directed. Trauma Coordinator will promote a profession image of nursing within the hospital and the larger community. Computer skills are essential including knowledge of electronic records, basic word processing and ability to use hospital systems as provided. Ability to use and operate medical and office equipment is essential. Trauma Coordinator is accountable to have knowledge of patient safety and quality processes. Ability and knowledge application of patient and confidentiality standards.
