Position Summary
The Transportation Planner is responsible for improving overall transportation effectiveness through daily planning, analysis, and issue resolution.
Essential Job Functions:- Plan, schedule and ensure the timely delivery of the company's freight to a multi-regional geographic area using Oracle Transportation Management System (OTM).
- Responsible for the tending loads, successful dispatch and pick-up of planned loads and subsequent ownership of loads for assigned area
- Utilize network balance capacity tools to determine location of trucks and available customer loads, tailor planning to meet area needs.
- Understand daily capacity demand and pro-actively communicate to appropriate leadership
- Utilize Network Decision Support tools to assign loads to trucks (OTM, PC Miler) ensuring customers' service requirements are met
- Communicate late pickups and/or deliveries, as well as any other load changes, to appropriate department personnel
- Other duties as assigned, such as transportation compliance audits, KPI reporting, and project support.
- Bachelor’s Degree is ideal, however will consider 5 years relevant work experience in lieu of degree.
- Thorough knowledge of the freight industry, including TL, LTL, Ocean, and parcel
- 2+ yrs experience with Oracle Transportation Management (OTM) and ERPs - JDE E1 and SAP, other Transportation Management software experience acceptable
- Strong proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel
- Knowledge of DOT Hazardous Material Shipping regulations
- Ability to plan, think ahead, and prepare action plans to achieve results
- Manages multiple competeting priorities well under pressure.
