Job Description

Position: Transmission Design Expert Nexteer Automotive is looking for an experienced geartrain design leader and engineering contributor. The candidate selected for this position will be responsible for leading the design and development of transmissions used in electrified powertrain solutions. The ideal candidate will have prior experience with a full product cycle of design, development and productionizing of similar transmissions, including experience with gear/system design software programs such as Masta or Romax. The candidate will work on a powertrain team including motor, inverter, controller, thermal, system and software engineers. This position will interface with cross-functional teams at Nexteer including validation, manufacturing and purchasing.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead the design and development of a transmission for an electrified powertrain system
  • Lead design of entire internal details; candidate should have specific experience with gear geometry design and system lubrication and cooling
  • Lead optimization of system performance versus cost
  • Develop transmission verification and validation requirements
  • Develop relevant product requirements leading to manufacturing of initial prototypes and production systems
  • Provide expertise on prototyping techniques and production manufacturing
  • Support development of system requirements; capability to lead system development with programs such as Masta or Romax is a benefit
  • Provide design directions to CAD personnel and develop solutions to existing problems
  • Coordinate with vendors and/or customers to devise alternative solutions for performance while maintaining and/or reducing the cost of the product.
  • Lead product design analysis while developing innovative technologies/ideas, creating technical drawings, validating and testing design concepts, diagnosing and correcting deficiencies.

QUALIFICATIONS:Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with 3+ years of relevant experience

Required Experience :
  • Automotive electrified powertrain transmission design experience, strong in gear geometry design
  • Design work with an electrified powertrain of a vehicle OEM, Tier 1, or major global design house on a production program
  • Engineering theory and principles of design
  • Empirical verification of transmission design performance
  • Engineering processes and controls
  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
  • Manufacturing processes and controls
  • Technical writing
  • Experience with software programs such as Masta or Romax, for electrified powertrain gear/system design

Preferred Experience:
  • Experience with full design-to-production product cycle of electrified powertrain transmissions
  • Experience with electrified powertrain system environments and duty cycles
  • Intellectual property attainment is a plus
  • Professional organization participation and industry publication authorship
