Position Overview

POSITION OVERVIEWABOUT THE POSITION:The Training Officer provides career development and job skills training to respond to internal staff training and business customer needs including designing, developing curricula, presenting materials, promoting, and publicizing training classes and workshops, and related training functions. This position is Exempt under the FSLA.
ABOUT THE JUVENILE PROBATION DEPARTMENT:The Juvenile Probation Department of the Judicial Branch of Arizona in Maricopa County is dedicated to providing innovative and efficient juvenile justice services grounded in evidenced-based practices and research. These services improve the safety of our community, hold youth accountable through developmentally appropriate orientation, and ensure the public’s trust and confidence in the Judicial Branch. Note: The salary range listed above ($52,000.00 - $59,176.00) reflects the expected ENTRY salary range for this position based on experience and equity within the Judicial Branch. The FULL salary range of this position is $52,000.00 to $80,704.00 annually.

Position Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, Business or related field
Experience:
  • Two (2) years of professional training experience
OR Combined education and experience qualifications:
  • Professional level experience as a trainer or facilitator, which includes the development of curriculum and/or lesson plans may substitute for the education requirement on a year for year basis
Other Requirements:
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver’s license at the time of hire
  • Positions in Detention are subject to Tuberculosis (TB) testing. All offers of employment are subject to successful completion of new employee processing and a negative TB result prior to the start date
  • Candidates will be required to successfully complete a background/reference check, polygraph and pre-employment psychological evaluation prior to hire

Our Preferred Candidate has:
  • Proficient with a wide variety of computer programs, preferably: MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, Crystal Reports, and eLearning authoring tools
  • Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge of class development in the above-mentioned environments, group dynamics, adolescent development, evidence based practices, knowledge of Articulate Rise 360 and Storyline 360 and an understanding of Adult Learning Theories and Multi Intelligence

Essential Job Tasks

(This is not an all-inclusive list of all job duties that may be required; employees will be required to perform other related duties as assigned.)
  • Design training classes for online, virtual classrooms and in-person learning formats
  • Design and prepare guides, manuals, visual aids and other training materials appropriate to the class being developed
  • Utilize Adult Learning Theory to develop curricula
  • Deliver training programs that increase participant knowledge and use of evidence-based practices, positive youth development, and the cycle of change
  • Conduct training for the special projects and initiatives of the department
  • Conduct needs analyses and recommends training or other appropriate intervention that address the needs of the department, division, unit or individual
  • Consult with internal and external customers regarding training issues
  • Recommend and implement appropriate solutions to challenges that arise
  • Respond to customer inquiries received in person, via telephone and e-mail, using a training record database and other available resources, and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Assist with operational functions of the training program, as needed, in coordination with teammates and stakeholders
  • Work cooperatively with all levels of employees within Juvenile Probation of Maricopa County, with other Judicial Branch Departments and juvenile justice stakeholder agencies
  • Comply with training program guidelines established by Administrative Order of the Supreme Court and JPD leadership
  • Lead and/or participate in focus groups
  • Maintain a current, valid Arizona Driver’s License, Other duties as assigned

Working conditions:Work environments can include a standard office environment (office/cubicles), working from home virtually and classrooms within a variety of locations, including but not limited to: juvenile detention facilities, probation administration, and court buildings throughout Maricopa County and the state. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak clearly and hear; see details of objects that are less than a few feet away; sit for long periods of time; stand, walk, use hands to finger handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and occasionally push, pull or lift up to 20 pounds.
