POSITION SUMMARY: A Toolmaker Apprentice is responsible to support Class A and Class B toolmakers in mold cleaning, mold set-up tasks, and light machining. The person in this position is working through continued education to become a toolmaker. The Toolmaker Apprentice reports to the Toolroom Supervisor.
Schedule: 2p-10p Monday-Friday
Essential Functions
- Assist in scheduled and emergency tooling repair, maintenance, troubleshooting, cleaning, and mold set-ups.
- Perform machining operations under the guidance of toolmakers to support tool room activities and schedules.
- Recommends changes to mold designs to improve life of assets and output of assets.
- Knowledge and understanding of toolroom practices and fabricating techniques
- Follow all Key Operating Procedures, including but not limited to:
- Company and facility Policies
- Safety – Use of proper PPE; adherence to all applicable safety rules
- SOPs – Methods for performing work
- SSOP/Good Housekeeping standards
- Communicate in a positive and respectful manner to resolve all issues
- Complete all documentation accurately
- Ask for help when the need arises
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: High School Diploma/GED – with secondary education in the machine tool trades in-process or recently completed.
Computer Skills: Basic computer skills, CAD skills in process or completed.
Other Requirements: Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications. Good troubleshooting and mechanical skills. Ability to work safely and effectively within a team
