Job Description

The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures is seeking a detail-oriented, candidate to fulfill the role of Volunteer and Visitor Experience Coordinator.

Job purpose

The purpose of t his role is to support T/m’s mission, strategic, and DEAI goals by providing exceptional hospitality and visitor experiences to all individuals and groups visiting the museum. The Volunteer and Visitor Experience Coordinator will administer the volunteer program, schedule group visits, and sell admission tickets and Museum Store merchandise. This role will also serve as the manager at the museum on Saturdays.

The ideal candidate with have excellent customer service skills and the ability to multi-task. Must be an energetic self-starter with high standards and exemplary problem-solving skills, must be able to work collaboratively with other museum staff. Museum experience and knowledge of foreign language skills are a plus, but not required.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Serve as the museum’s Saturday manager.
  • Preserve visitor safety and store and gallery security.
  • Schedule and coordinate museum volunteers and successfully recruit, develop, and maintain a thriving volunteer program.
  • Schedule group visits and deliver tours when needed
  • Stay informed about current and future museum exhibitions and programs.
  • Provide exceptional visitor service in keeping with the museum’s educational goals.
  • Receive shipments, merchandising, restocking, and straightening inventory.
  • Maintain work areas—front desk, public spaces, interactives and gallery cases.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to sit, stand and walk for long periods of time
  • Proficient with Windows-based programs and able to operate a POS system
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented

Working Conditions:

  • Able to lift 25 pounds unassisted and stand for long periods of time on hard floors. Ideal candidate must be able and willing to clean exhibition displays daily, requiring bending, kneeling, and stretching.


Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

  • Experience managing or working with volunteers
  • Volunteer management experienc
  • 2 years minimum retail, cash handling, and customer service experience

Salary

$12.00 - $15.30/hour, to commensurate with education and experience.

Shift

40 hours per week, Tuesday – Saturday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm with some occasional evening and Sunday shifts.
