Columbia College Chicago a private urban institution of over 6,000 undergraduate and graduate students, four-year College offering a distinctive curriculum that blends liberal arts, creative and media arts and business is currently searching for a Title IX Investigator.
POSITION SUMMARY
Under supervision of the Director of Equity Issues and Title IX Coordinator, the Title IX Investigator will assist with the administration of the College's Title IX Sexual Harassment Policy and Procedures and Anti-Harassment and Discrimination Policy. The Title IX Investigator will also assist with educating the college community on awareness and prevention of sexual misconduct and forms of harassment and discrimination. The Title IX Investigator will work closely with Human Resources, General Counsel Office, Hearing Officers, Campus Safety & Security, and Student Affairs staff. Additionally, the position serves as the Chair of the Sexual Assault Awareness Education Committee.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop an investigative plan and draft an investigation report for each complaint.
- Assist with oversight of the College’s Title IX Sexual Harassment Policy and Procedures and other applicable policies and documents.
- Assist with annual mandatory training efforts for students and designated Responsible Employees (faculty and staff) including Non-Professional Advocates & Counselor and Confidential Advisors.
- Assist with training current Title IX Hearing Panelists.
- Coordinate efforts to secure interim measures with Campus Safety & Security, Human Resources and departments within the Division of Student Affairs as needed.
- Gather relevant documents and keep accurate, detailed up to date of records of complaints.
- Draft and issue a variety of correspondence regarding investigation status.
- Communicate in a timely manner to all parties.
- Attend hearings.
- Assist the Title IX Coordinator in managing case files of complaints to ensure files are compliant with federal guidelines.
- Coordinate and facilitate monthly meetings for the Sexual Assault Awareness Education Committee.
- Plan, develop, and facilitate various efforts for annual educational, training, and social programs and initiatives for students and other members of the campus community.
- Serve as a liaison to General Counsel, Campus Safety & Security, and Human Resources.
- Provide additional support with case management when the Director of Equity Issues & Title IX Coordinator is out of the office.
- Perform other related duties and/ or responsibilities as assigned or required.
Qualifications
- Degree in criminal justice, legal studies, or related field is required.
- A minimum of 3 years of progressive responsibilities within higher education working with Title IX or related compliance efforts.
- Knowledge of investigation techniques, and the ability to analyze evidence and documents to determine policy violations.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws related to unlawful discrimination and harassment, Section 504, Title IX, Clery, VAWA, Title VII and related state laws pertaining to sex discrimination, sexual and gender-based harassment.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills to work with all levels of the college.
- Strong sense of confidentiality and discretion.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Maxient.
- Ability to multi-task, train and advise students and employees at all levels.
- Experience working with a diverse student body.
