As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will focus on leading the Assembly, Integration, and Test team. You will work across subsystems and support integrated solutions to help achieve Blue Origin’s vision of millions of people living and working in space. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of developing tests plans and procedures for verifying vehicle design and function, archiving test data to support vehicle verification and developing test equipment, and Ground Support Equipment. This role is a combination of test development, planning and documentation, hands-on running tests and troubleshooting/data analysis. The position requires support of optimal solutions across the program with strong collaboration within and across the program, partners, contractors and NASA. - Guide the successful completion of major programs, sometimes as a project leader
- Apply extensive understanding on a wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts associated with vehicle-level system testing including acceptance and qualification tests: specification performance, structural, leak and pressure, vibration, acoustic, shock, thermal balance and thermal vacuum, and electromagnetic.
- Have frequent customer interactions as a prime technical contact on significant technical matters requiring coordination between organizations
- Mentor & train other personnel
- Carry out test development engineering activities in accordance with Blue Origin standards and practices to complete tasks assigned including:
- Work with the design and systems engineers to plan tests of the vehicle subsystems, ensuring the tests are designed to verify the pertinent requirements
- Participate in gated design and production reviews
- Work with design engineers to integrate testing and operability features into the design of new vehicles
- Develop procedures and software automation that will be used during launch operations
- Develop, manage, and maintain test GSE
- Write test procedures and manage procedural redlines and updates during test campaigns
- Act as test engineer with overall responsibility for the test, the crew, and the procedure
- Enforce safety policies during test planning and operations
- Support on-site launch operations to prepare the vehicle for flight
- BS in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, physics, or related technical discipline
- 8+ years of relevant experience
- Understanding of the principles, concepts, and methods of system engineering such as concept development, requirement definition, design solution definition, implementation, integration, verification and validation, qualification, commissioning or operations
- Full knowledge of other related disciplines such as vehicle level acceptance and qualification test, electrical ground support equipment, ground support equipment, test facilities
- Understand the Test Like You Fly assessment and exception process
- Travel of 25% during planning and probable travel of 50% during periods of integration and test to multiple test sites
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to work effectively in teams
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast paced, dynamic work environment
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
- M.S in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, physics, or related technical discipline
- Experience in the full life cycle for test planning from requirement definition through execution and post-test data processing
- Experience defining, designing, and/or operating electrical ground support equipment
- Experience defining, designing, and/or procuring ground support equipment
- Experience leading test design reviews
- Experience leading anomaly investigations with familiarity in root cause and corrective action techniques.
- Experience with scripting (Python or other scripting language)
- Sound judgment, high energy, and creative
- Comfortable working in a fast paced, dynamic work environment
- Experience with software tools such as DOORS Next Generation, Cameo, MATLAB/Simulink, Confluence, JIRA, Git, Creo, and Windchill
