Job Description

HII USG has an exciting systems autonomy deployment engineer role to develop and integrate and test artificial intelligence onto autonomous maritime systems and while using a broad spectrum of tools and technologies to meet both internal and external client requirements. This individual will apply strong robotic systems engineering skills, software engineering skills, and autonomy domain knowledge to solve the challenges in engineering unmanned system that effectively interact with US Navy platforms and other DoD assets. Working within a multi-disciplinary team, this individual will take these autonomy systems from concept to the field, making critical contributions to the validation of autonomy software and sensor design for both existing and new undersea and surface platforms.

Essential Job ResponsibilitiesPerforms technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. Minimum Qualifications
  • 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in realted field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
  • Degree in Autonomous Systems, Robotics, Computer Science, or Software Engineering
  • Proficient in developing software with Python and/or MATLAB programming language, and related packages, frameworks and libraries
  • Proficient in developing software within autonomous software system architecture and design, such as ASTM F2541 and US Navy Unmanned Maritime Autonomy Architecture (UMAA)
  • Must have secret clearance #LI-MH1
Preferred Requirements
  • Experience in developing and implementing machine learning models. The individual shall be familiar with general workflow and standard software frameworks used for machine learning and deep learning
  • Experience with Data Distribution Service (DDS) design
  • Domain knowledge and contextual understanding of robotics and use of machine learning in the field of robotics, especially in autonomous vehicles
Physical RequirementsOffice, industrial, or shipboard environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances. Lifting and moving materials may be required.
