Job Description
Job Summary
This is a temporary full-time position to assist during the COVID19 pandemic. This is a general Public Health nursing position with work involving direct nursing services for clients in the clinical setting as well as COVID-19 response as defined below. Duties may include immunizations, Communicable Disease testing, tracking/investigation, and treatment, child health and adult health nursing programs including family planning. Work is performed with professional independence in accordance with established County and department policies, protocols, and procedures. The COVID Response LPN is supervised by the Nursing Supervisor, Director or Assistant Director. Essential Functions

Participates in providing the ten essential services of public health;
Administers immunizations appropriate to individual history and ACIP guidelines or under direct order by a physician. Follows Vaccine for Children and Kansas Department of Health and Environment policies for use of vaccine.
Administers medications for TB and STDs, educates clients on potential side effects, and monitors for adverse reaction;
Obtains laboratory specimens for screening and/or the diagnoses of communicable diseases;
Performs communicable disease contact investigations;
Performs phlebotomy and collects urine pregnancy testing and provides counseling;
Assists in health and wellness screenings, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse;
Cooperates, communicates, coordinates and collaborates with community partners on health-promoting committees and activities;
Coordinates with other professionals to accommodate patient needs;
Prepares for natural and man-made disasters or emergency responses related to public health concerns;
Participates in ongoing quality improvement and performance management activities with the department;
Provides Public Health Support for COVID-19 pandemic;
Triage phone calls related to COVID testing and test results, contact tracing and any other duties needed to assist with COVID Testing and Investigation;
Performs other related duties as assigned.

ABILITY TO:
Provide skilled nursing care based on scientific principles, basic behavioral concepts, and intelligent professional judgment;
Give injections, take blood pressure, and perform various blood tests;
Operate a hemoglobin analyzer, stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, audiometer and other related medical equipment as required by the job;
Model behaviors for staff, customers, and public in loyalty, integrity, appearance and work habits;
Willingly share knowledge with other teammates to further and increase organizational efficiency;
Follow agency standards and written protocols with supervision as needed;
Work with clients of all ages including children;
Work with individuals who are irate and difficult persons or non-English speaking persons;
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, coworkers, and representatives from other County departments and the general public.

Certifications, Licenses, & Education/Experience

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must have current Kansas Licensed Practical Nurse License and complete annual continuing education requirements;
Must possess and maintain a current State Driver"s License;
Maintain current CPR certification;

Minimum of ICS 100, 700, 200 and 800 (within 6 months of hire).

REQUIRED EDUCATION/OR EXPERIENCE:
Licensed Practical Nurse degree from certified college.
