About the Position: This position is located at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas. The Technical Writer (Medical CBRN) position performs as a doctrine developer for the United States Army Medical Department Center of Excellence the principal Army Medicine activity for development and promulgation of Army medical doctrine and multiservice publications.

Responsibilities
  • Performs as exclusive agent in developing technically sound Army Medicine doctrine manuals which outline principles, organizations, tactics, techniques and procedures of Army Health System support to the worldwide operational force.
  • Collaborates with concept, organizational and materiel developers in providing all medical and medical CBRN doctrinal review of emerging concepts.
  • Determines proper project approach based on directives from Department of Army and higher headquarters.
  • Produces doctrinal guidance and final edit of literary projects for SMEs for the publication of research findings and concepts in professional and scientific journals.

    In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.     Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes planning, coordinating, and preparing medical CBRN documents for the organization through collaboration with the materiel and training developers; analyzing writing projects to determine the best writing approach appropriate for the intended audience; performing substantive writing and editing of doctrine literature used to publish in professional and/or scientific journals; interpreting and developing doctrine procedures to support medical military functions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

    Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
