POSITION SUMMARY
The Technical Support Engineer uses engineering knowledge and methods to install and support mechanical and electrical equipment. The Technical Support Engineer provides technical assistance and support to internal employees and customers. This position requires in-depth mechanical knowledge. The Technical Support Engineer provides support and guidance to all US-based BCI employees at the Norfolk, Virginia headquarters as well as associates based in Florida, Texas, California, Michigan and New York. This position reports to the Manager of Customer Service Operations.

JOB FUNCTIONS
Include the following, but other duties may be assigned.
  • Serve as the technical lead on major development projects and Engineer-to-Order (ETO) customized application projects.
  • Serve as the technical liaison between sales, engineering, manufacturing, and customer service on product development applications.
  • Define and develop technical solutions in partnership with engineering.
  • Responsible for high-level troubleshooting electrical, PLC, mechanical, and pneumatic, applications.
  • Responsible for providing high-level support installations and start-up of new equipment.
  • Responsible for high-level technical field service support by travelling to distributors and customer sites.
  • Provide detailed technical and applications training for in-house Field Service and Technical Support team members.
  • Provide troubleshooting assistance to customers on various technical questions.
  • Research technical information for customers as well as for BAUER team members.
  • Gather and relay technical or performance information from existing BAUER-installed equipment in regards to the operation of equipment and provide feedback to engineering.
  • Perform technical on-site pre-installation and post installation surveys to ensure site conditions are in compliance with engineering standards.
  • Provide technical support to the Technical Competency Center (TCC) in relation to specification review and compliance.
  • Build strong customer relationships.
  • Sell BAUER products and services.
  • Provide technical support from headquarters or from the road via telephone and e-mail.
  • Maintain company and product reputation by complying with federal and state regulations.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or other related field.
  • Three (3) years of work experience in a technical support environment (testing, troubleshooting, and service).
  • Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Active driver's license with positive driving record.
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to multitask and prioritize demands.
  • Self-starter, ability to resolve issues and research solutions.
  • Ability to work under pressure and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated organizational and creative problem solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate information clearly and effectively; speak professionally, and learn process and procedures quickly.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of employees and management.
  • Ability to comprehend and respond to internal customer needs in a timely manner.
VALUED BUT NOT REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Manufacturing experience a plus.
  • Siemens controls programming and troubleshooting experience.

Normal working schedule: 8AM to 5PM EST, Monday through Friday.
