Job Description
The Walker School, located in Needham is currently looking to hire Bachelor's level Teaching Assistants. Under the guidance of a Special Education teacher, the Teaching Assistant will work in a classroom of up to nine children with social, emotional, learning and behavioral disabilities. Primary responsibilities include assisting the teacher with planning and implementing academic tasks, as well as working with specialists (e.g., Health, Gym, Art, Music) to create a highly structured environment conducive to learning. Bachelor's degree, previous experience working with children and valid MA driver's license required.Essential functions for this position include: 1.Work as a part of a multidisciplinary team to further the emotional, behavioral, and educational development of children.2.Actively participate in supervision and professional development opportunities offered at Walker.3.Directly supervise children in the school program and club program, as assigned.4.With supervision, implement and participate in academic and social-recreational lessons for individuals and small groups.5.During academic and/or social-recreational activities or lessons, support the students by providing individual assistance as needed.6.Meet childrens physical needs, and provide a safe and therapeutic environment for children.7.Implement treatment protocol and appropriate therapeutic strategies established in childrens treatment plans, IEPs, and individual crisis management plans.8.Apply Walkers model of childcare, including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), which requires physical restraint when necessary, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, cooperative group games, and behavioral support.9.Participate fully in the administrative functions of teaching and child care, including attending and participating in required meetings, completing assigned report writing tasks in a timely manner, and actively communicating with families and members of the students multidisciplinary team.10.Provide coverage of student groups during head teachers absence.11.Follow and implement all Walker policies and procedures.12.Other duties as assigned.Qualifications: Bachelor's degree, previous experience working with children and a valid MA driver's license required.
