    Staff Needed: Four (4) Teachers of English

    STEAM HS at Paterson Catholic will provide students with the opportunity to engage in courses that emphasize project-based learning and an interdisciplinary (STEAM) focus that is geared towards improving the quality of life for global citizens and sustaining and protecting global ecosystems. Students will have an opportunity to pursue one of the following pathways starting in their sophomore year: Engineering, Sustainability Studies, Computer Science and Information Technology, and Medical and Dental Arts.
    A system thinking and collaborative approach to problem solving is central to how students will work in the classroom, and how our greater school community will function. Our students will engage in collaborative, interdisciplinary work in each course. School staff will also work collaboratively across departments and with community, industry, and higher education partners to design and implement high quality course content and ancillary programs. We are seeking teachers who have a passion for systems thinking, interdisciplinary, project-based learning and a strong commitment to ensuring that all students have access to a caring, supportive school community and high quality instruction.

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
    • NJ certification (K-12 English) with satisfactory ratings and attendance.
    • Advanced degree preferred.
    • At least 5 years of teaching experience preferred.
    • Familiarity with restorative justice practices, culturally relevant pedagogy and the SAMR model for technology integration.
    • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
    • Meet such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    Because roles in small schools are varied and complex, serious consideration will be given to applicants who demonstrate in their resume and cover letter the experience and/or willingness to commit to the school’s mission and core beliefs and to become involved in these essential aspects:
    • Work within a non-traditional school schedule and organizational structure that meets the needs of all students including English Language learners and students requiring special education services and/or teaching classes in 90 minute blocks as scheduled;
    • Participation in mandatory summer training (additional stipend);
    • Collaborate with colleagues to write unit plans, write interim assessments, share teaching strategies, visit peer classrooms, analyze student data, and develop best practice pedagogy that supports literacy and critical thinking skills across all subject areas;
    • Work in a start-up organization with a focus on individualized student learning, problem-based learning and the utilization of a backwards planning design model, as outlined by Wiggins and McTighe;
    • Incorporate literacy & computational thinking strategies into daily routines and classroom instruction;
    • Incorporate technology into daily routines and classroom instruction consistent with higher levels of the SAMR model;
    • Apply data gathered through formative and summative assessments to guide the instructional plan;
    • Develop an individual growth plan in collaboration with the school administrators that will monitor progress and assess his/her effectiveness in enhancing student achievement;
    • Create a safe and supportive learning environment with routines and structures that align with the school’s core values.
