Job Description
Report To: Classroom Teacher/PrincipalPosition Summary: This is paraprofessional work of an instructional nature in a classroom setting or with small groups or individual students.An employee in this class is responsible for assisting a teacher in carrying out a daily educational program. Work involves the development of effective personal relationships with children of all needs.Work requires the performance of various instructional, classroom and clerical duties according to established procedures, which can be learned on the job. An employee is provided with specific instructions, and is under the direct supervision of a teacher or the school principal.Essential Duties: Reviews and assists students with subject matter individually and/or in small groups.Assists students with arts and crafts, corrects assignments.Assists in developing learning materials for use in the classroom, prepares bulletin boards, sets up equipment.Monitors lunch periods, recess and hallways.Attend to personal needs of children.Prepares snacks.Assist teachers in giving and scoring tests.Maintains program records and reports.Copies learning materials (work sheets, workbooks, learning kits), for use in classroom.Cleans and straightens classroom.Maintains safety of students in classroom (physical outbursts).Performs other related work consistent with the position summary as required.Monitors students during periods of brief teacher absence.Assists certified personnel in the monitoring of students participating in field trips.Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma/GED.Some knowledge of modern educational practices and procedures.Training as required by the school district.Experience in or ability to be trained in de-escalation, and crisis prevention and intervention techniques.Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction.Ability to learn assigned duties and adhere to prescribed classroom procedures and school-wide initiatives.Ability to maintain accurate recordsAbility to operate modern office equipment.Meet mandated state and federal requirements.Physical Requirements include (but are not limited to): Use hands to finger, handle, feelReach in all directionsSeeHear and understand speech at normal levelsCommunicate so that others will clearly understand normal conversationCommunicate using telephone or other communication equipmentRun and work outside in temperature and/or humidity extremes, with slippery and/or uneven surfaces, biological exposure (insects, plants, etc.) and sunlight exposure Work Position (Percentage of Time): Standing 45Walking45Sitting10Body Movement (Frequency): Lifting (up to 20 lbs.)FrequentPulling/pushing loadsFrequentBending/Stooping Very FrequentKneeling/Squatting Very FrequentReaching overhead FrequentClimbing/descending stairsVery Frequent (depending upon location)
