Job Description

SUMMARY

As an integral member of the finance department, this individual will oversee and perform all corporate tax-related initiatives for the company, working closely with external tax consultants, and managing multiple operations of the tax practice area.

In this position, you will supervise and manage all Federal and State income tax reporting, as well as sales and use tax issues, and will consult on all financial accounting matters relating to taxes.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts research and planning according to current tax laws and works with the Controller and Chief Administrative Officer on advising senior management and other company personnel on the tax impact of current and proposed company activities and transactions.

  • Research of state sales/ use tax issues including nexus determinations, taxability analyses, and quantification of potential liabilities.

  • Address state and local sales/ use tax issues for corporations

  • Prepare state sales/ use tax memos on a variety of topics including but not limited to: nexus and taxability for sales/ use taxes, sales/ use tax processes, business strategies, and property tax

  • Sales tax return review and guidance, voluntary disclosure projects, credits and incentives, and recovery studies

  • Monitor and present thought leadership on multi-state sales and use tax developments

  • Manages and supervises company tax compliance and financial reporting for income taxes

  • Establishes work plans and processes relating to tax issues ensuring deadlines and necessary filings are met

  • Ensure appropriate state and federal filings and licensing are made and up to date

  • Consults with other financial and accounting team members to identify and solve developing corporate tax issues

  • Stays abreast of US Internal Revenue Code and State Tax Regulation changes and procedures

  • Hires, trains, supervises, and retains competent tax staff

  • Coordinates tax compliance projects with outside tax preparers, advisors, and reviewers to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of tax compliance obligations

  • Improve processes by developing or implementing best practices

  • Identify and mitigate tax risks

  • Prepare all tax papers on a regular basis and handle all information data requests

  • Assist the finance team in various regulatory compliance tasks

  • Help research accounting & SEC-related issues, prepare accounting schedules and compile data for quarterly reporting

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Master's Degree in accounting or related field

  • CPA License preferred, not required

  • 2-3 years of public accounting or corporate tax experience

  • Possesses proficient computer skills, specifically Microsoft Excel and Word

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to work across company departments

  • Possesses analytical, project management, and prioritization skills

  • Familiar with the US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, specifically those relating to tax reporting

  • Basic understanding of sales and use tax issues
