SUMMARY
Reporting to the VP Financial Reporting, the System Director/Executive Director (L+M/WH) will be focused on working in close collaboration with the Vice President of Finance at Lawrence + Memorial Delivery Network. The position is responsible for directing, coordinating and carrying out all financial management functions of the organization with a principle focus on oversight and development of strategic financial plans (business plans and physician recruitment), accountability for financial results, ensuring financial information is being monitored and maintained in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), directing the annual operating budget process, partnering with clinical and operational colleagues, and staying current with all financial pronouncements and industry trends. This person will be expected to quickly earn the respect of the teams as a proactive leader, team player, and trusted partner. In order to optimize results, this individual will be expected to bring a broad understanding of finance and have the ability to convert the complex into simple terms with the ability to see the operational implications of financial results and analysis. In addition to the specific Lawrence + Memorial responsibilities, the System Director/Executive Director (L+M/WH) will participate in System initiatives and work directly with the System Executive Leadership Team.

- Acts as key financial leader, providing strategic input and guidance to the Lawrence + Memorial senior leadership teams by participating in leadership meetings, Finance Committee meetings, and as appropriate Delivery Network Board meetings.
- Provides a connection and financial understanding of all entities within the Lawrence + Memorial Delivery Network including the Visiting Nurse Association and all other subsidiaries.
- Provides leadership and participates in the ongoing development of the finance team. Takes an active role in the recruitment and retaining of finance talent.
- Direct the financial and administrative functions of the organization in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Possess a track record indicating deep knowledge of the underpinnings of financial statements and their operational and clinical translation.
- Review the monthly financial statement close process and financial statements. Provide the Lawrence + Memorial leadership team with an understanding of results and trends.
- Oversee the operating budget process and the Lawrence + Memorial budget team. This includes collaboration with the System Budgeting function to develop financial projections, budget roll-forwards, budget communications and Finance Committee presentations.
- Responsible for mitigation strategies at Lawrence + Memorial and participate in the development of annual patient volumes and new clinical business plans.
- Coordinate with Lawrence + Memorial leadership teams, Finance Northeast Medical Group (NEMG) and the Yale School of Medicine (YSM) on physician recruitment. Develop business plans which include defining the physician’s role at the Delivery Network and YSM. Determine the Delivery Network resources available to support the physician, such as clinic space, nursing staff and equipment, as well as researches available resources at YSM. Serves as liaison to the University and NEMG employed community based physicians.
- Participate in YNHHS Enterprise Wide Risk Assessment. Ensure timely completion of internal audits and compliance audits. Make suggestions to audit plans and ensure appropriate scoping of all audits.
- Monitor Accounts Receivable and revenue issues in partnership with Corporate Business Services and the YNHHS revenue team.
- Establish a culture, identity and sense of team that fosters exceptional service, creative problem solving and collaboration. Maintains a visible presence within the departments and throughout the Lawrence + Memorial Delivery Network. Serve on various YNHHS committees and able to act as proxy for the Lawrence + Memorial Vice President of Finance.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance and/or related field required; CPA, MBA or MPH strongly preferred
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience in Finance; preferable in a complex academic healthcare setting.
SPECIAL SKILLS:
Possess in-depth knowledge of financial analysis, general accounting, and budget management principles and practices relative to healthcare institutions, enhanced business practices, integrated business management principles and practices, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and financial reporting processes and procedures. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment with a wide range of diverse constituents. Outstanding analytical skills and a proven ability to connect data analysis with business issues and decisions. Strong knowledge of finance and accounting principles and experience leading teams. Excellent written, oral and electronic communication skills. Demonstrated organization management skills. Skilled in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, developing and implementing new strategies and procedures by leading and managing change. Skilled in the use of computers and software applications to quantify and illustrate complex financial issues. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment; establish internal credibility with Senior Leadership and peer leaders; understand day to day operations and add value to establishing business targets and measures; prioritize reporting and analyses objectives; compile, analyze, interpret and present complex annual financial reports; bring energy and impact to the role; and lead, supervise and train employees including mentoring and coaching employees to achieve maximum productivity. Excellent administrative, managerial, technical, and negotiation skills. Ability to effectively and persuasively package and communicate the vision and values of YNHHS to outside physicians.
