Department DescriptionThe University of California has a visionary policy on sustainability that UCDH uses as a basis for its sustainability program. All eleven UC campuses have sustainability directors who oversee complex sustainability programs. The UCDH Sustainability Director works under the direction of the Executive Director of Professional Services and coordinates with the UCO Campus Sustainability Office as well as the Sustainability Director in the Office of the President. The UCOH Sustainability efforts are guided and shaped by a Sustainability Committee to implement the UC system-wide sustainability policies. Job SummaryFinal Filing Date 01/28/2022

THIS IS NOT AN H1- B OPPORTUNITY ResponsibilitiesThis position is the technical leader responsible for developing, leading, and coordinating all UCDH initiatives related to sustainability in accordance with the UCDHS Sustainability Committee mission and vision. You will be responsible for tracking and benchmarking all environmental programs, coordination of environmental programs between departments and representation of our environmental initiatives with both internal and external stakeholders. You will ensure that the goals established by the Executive Steering Committee for Sustainability (ESCS) are being met. You will also provide support to the Sustainability Committee and ensure that its work groups are coordinated and working in concert with UCDH Sustainability policy. This position may manage programs that include formulating strategies, administering processes, and resources with a high degree of autonomy. You may have the opportunity to supervise others or lead staff on sustainability projects.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience/training in environmental science, management, or policy; architecture; engineering; or public health.
  • Progressive sustainability and environmental program management responsibility experience.
  • Strong oral and written communication experience and skills to communicate the Intent of codes and regulations, policies and procedures in a manner accessible to a broad audience.
  • Skills and experience to negotiate and resolve conflicts Involving diverse views and positions and lead diverse groups working complex projects to consensus and resolution of sustainability issues.
  • Advanced skills in data analytics, assessing sustainability programs and payback on investment.
  • Experience and/or skills to conduct complex and varied analyses of energy consumption, environmental impact, and cost-effectiveness of sustainability projects.
  • Skills and knowledge to make sound decisions and apply professional knowledge and expertise in sustainability using original and innovative approaches and techniques to solve complex non-routine problems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in environmental sciences. sustainability or other relative field.
  • LEED Accredited Professional.
  • ISSP Certified Sustainability Professional.
  • Certified Healthcare Environmental Manager, Certified Healthcare Safety Professional or Certified Safety Professional.
  • Advanced knowledge of US Green Building Council.
  • Sustainable operations experience in academic or healthcare selling.
