The First Hill Surgery Center is seeking a Surgical/Operating Room Technician to join their team full-time to work in an ambulatory surgery center in Seattle, WA.
LOCATION:
First Hill Surgery Center
SPECIFIC SCHEDULE:
Full Time; 4/10's, Days TBD
The Surgical/OR Tech functions as an integral member of the team and is responsible for three phases of patient care or surgical case management, with minimal direction or supervision from their surgical team members. These include pre-operative, intraoperative and post-operative functions. All surgical team members must adhere to the principles of asepsis and the practice of sterile technique. Honesty and moral integrity are necessary to uphold these standards.
The Surgical/OR Tech is responsible for and not limited to:
Preoperative Case Management
- Don operating room (OR) attire and personal protective equipment
- Prepare the OR
- Gather necessary equipment and supplies
- Create and maintain the sterile field
- "Scrub" and don sterile gown and gloves
- Organize the sterile field for use
- Count necessary items
- Assist team members during entry of the sterile field
- Expose the operative site with sterile drapes
Intraoperative Case Management
- Maintain the sterile field
- Pass instrumentation, equipment, and supplies to the surgeon and surgical assistant as needed
- Assess and predict (anticipate) the needs of the patient and surgeon and provide the necessary items in order of need
- Medication preparation and handling
- Count necessary items
- Specimen care
- Dressing application
Postoperative Case Management
- Maintenance of the sterile field until the patient is transported
- Removal of used instruments, equipment, and supplies from the OR
- Care and maintenance of instruments, equipment, and supplies following use
- Preparation of the OR for the next patient
- Perform other related duties as assigned, including supply order and rotation to CSSD as assigned.
Preferred Experience and Credentials:
Education:
- High school diploma or its equivalency
- Graduation from a school of surgical technology OR
- Three to five years of on-the-job training in a hospital setting OR
- Three to five years training in the military service of the United States
Certification/Licensure:
- CPR certification required
- Surgical Technician Registration in Washington state required
- Operating room technician certificate preferred
Experience:
- Two to five years prior surgical technician experience preferred
- Previous ambulatory surgery center experience preferred
- Previous experience processing instruments preferred
Skills:
- Good organizational and communication skills
- Ability to prioritize responsibilities and tasks
- Ability to problem solve technical equipment and instrumentation problems
- Basic keyboarding and computer skills
- Flexible to work additional hours as requested
- Good oral and written command of the English language
- Regular attendance is required
- Must be able to contribute to a positive working environment
- Team-oriented
- May require lifting and transferring of patients
- Ability to stand for long hours
- Must be able to effectively cope with typical job stress and work within a fast-paced environment
