Job Summary and Qualifications

Under the general supervision of the Surgical Services Manager and/or Director, the Surgery Supervisor directs and coordinates patient care and the staff of the operating room The Supervisor is responsible for an awareness of patient conditions and problems. He or she is responsible for maintaining an acceptable level of nursing care intraoperatively. The Supervisor assumes the responsibility of the unit, assisting the management in planning and coordinating care. The Supervisor leads customer service initiatives and assumes the functions of the Manager in his or her absence.

    • You will plan and direct care
    • You will review the surgery schedule and staff appropriately
    • You will ensure availability of special supplies and equipment
    • You will facilitate orientation of new employees
    • You will evaluate performance of staff on an ongoing basis
    • You will lead quality patient outcomes, such as SCIP
    • You will demonstrate appropriate communication with physicians, staff and others and maintain professionalism

    Requirements

    Education

    • Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing.
    • A minimum of one year experience in Ambulatory Care and/or Surgical nursing.
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing - preferred

    License & Certifications

    • Registered Nurse license by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners. If compact license held, RN is required to obtain a Texas RN license within 90 days of their hire date.
    • BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
    • ACLS certification from the American Heart Association - preferred
    Certification in operating room (CNOR) - preferred

    Experience

    • One year experience as a charge nurse of a surgical nursing unit.

A campus of St. David’s North Austin Medical Center, this hospital features 40 inpatient rooms, several operating suites, pre-op and PACU bays, and an intensive care unit (ICU).
