JOB SUMMARY: Assists the physician with endoscopic procedures according to the documented physicians preferred routine. Cleans, maintains and orders supplies and equipment. Shall at all times demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors. Facilitates and demonstrates cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors at all times.
Meets the communication needs of the patient, all departmental staff and referring offices. Prepares and compiles records. Facilitates and demonstrates cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors at all times.
The PACU Ward Clerk provides basic nursing care and assists in the maintenance of a safe and clean recovery environment according to the direction of the charge nurse. She/he Facilitates and demonstrates cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors at all times.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Endoscopy Technician:
- Sets up Endoscopy Room according to surgeon preference.
- Assists physician and RN with endoscopic procedures.
- Assists with specimens according to policy.
- Applies the principles of aseptic technique and prescribed procedure room procedures to competently perform endoscopy technician functions.
- Performs required maintenance of instruments, supplies and equipment by adhering to cleaning, care, utilizations and sterilization procedures as directed.
- Notifies supervisor of any malfunction of equipment.
- Uses and maintains DSD according to manufacturer recommendations.
- Ensures a clean and tidy work area throughout the scope process.
- Restocks endoscopy room with designated supplies.
- Is able to accept supervision and benefit from constructive criticism.
- Is responsible for complete and thorough performance of assigned tasks.
- Follow established rules, regulations and policies. Adheres to and practices IFCH Compliance Program and participates in Performance Improvement activities.
- Demonstrates an awareness of safe conditions and safe acts as related to hospital employment.
- Demonstrates economic use of equipment and supplies.
- Exhibits cooperation, self-control and courtesy in relating to co-workers and job related contacts.
- Complies with attendance requirements.
- Demonstrates respect for authority, discusses problems and follows chain of command.
- Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent patient care information to assure patients rights are protected.
The Pre-op Ward Clerk / Unit Secretary:
- Answers phones, transfers calls, handles requests and takes messages.
- Makes phone calls to patients when arrival times are changed.
- Will keep Charge nurse updated with calls as needed.
- Handles Surgical Schedules:
- Prints copies of the surgery schedule
- Update schedules daily
- Is responsible for patient charts for final review by Charge Nurse:
- Inserts paperwork, lab reports, EKGs, history & physicals, and physician orders.
- Follows up on reports from the lab by verifying a copy is located in the chart and requests copies as needed.
- Retrieve old records in computer and file in chart
- Data entry, sort papers from fax and file appropriately.
- Maintains extra forms in file drawers.
- Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
- Maintains regulatory requirements and patient confidentiality at all times.
The CNA assigned to PACU I:
- Assists in admitting patients to the PACU I area.
- Attaches monitors and SCDs.
- Empties and records foleys and drains.
- Applies warm blankets and ice packs to patients.
- Performs blood draws and blood sugar checks.
- Retrieves PCU pump and tubing.
- Transfers patient from PACU II to the post-surgical department
The CNA assigned to PACU II:
- Assists patients to the bathroom and helps patients in getting dressed.
- Transports patients to their car.
The CNAs Ward Clerk Duties:
- Performs a chart audit for all patient charges.
- Maintains PACU forms, files and supplies.
- Fax physician orders.
- Call in doctor appointments for patients.
- Stock the following items:
- Carts, shelves and supplies
- Dietary items
- Oxygen tanks
- Is responsible for gurney and bed control.
- Is fully knowledgeable of policies and procedures of Idaho Falls Community Hospital.
- Performs other related duties incidental to work described herein.
- Demonstrates commitment to excellence in guest relations.
- Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification: High School graduate or equivalent.
Certificate of training for nursing assistance (CNA). Current BLS certification required.
Experience: Experience in endoscopy assisting and disinfection/sterilization/CNA preferred.
Equipment/Technology: Basic computer knowledge. Operating endoscope machine, Suction Unit, endoscope washer.
Language/Communication: Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
Mathematical Skills: Basic
Mental Capabilities: Can frequently and consistently make sound judgments. Can concentrate for long periods of time in order to complete assigned tasks. Can understand input from the supervisor and/or manager concerning errors and instructions. Will need a better than average attention span in order to listen, read and remember verbal and written instructions.
Interpersonal: Ability to work well with others.
Performance: Must be able to handle conflict issues with both patients and staff. Can work well under pressure.
