Our Surety team is currently seeking an Underwriting Associate (UA). This is a full time, non-exempt role.

Position Overview:
This position reports into Surety Operations and is responsible for partnering with their assigned Underwriters to service their agents and accounts. This position is also responsible for processing transactions that come through our workflow management system. Transactions include new business, adjustments, cancel/rewrites, cancellations, renewals, WIPs, and financials. The Surety UA is also responsible for working with Agency Accounting to research and resolve billing discrepancies and aged items. They partner with assigned UWs to coordinate collection efforts on overdue premium balances, bond # discrepancies, and any other items that may require UW and/or agency involvement.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
  • Forwards specific requests to the workflow management system, manages work within the system, and completes work items timely to ensure accurate production and service data.
  • Handles rush /escalated requests from assigned UWs, Team Leads or Senior UA
  • Processes new business, adjustments, cancel/rewrites, cancellations, renewals, WIPS, and financials for both Contract and Commercial bonds, at both the transactional and account level, within specified guidelines.
  • Processes transactions based on error and exception reports generated at various times during the month.
  • Works closely with Agency Accounting to research and resolve billing discrepancies. Works closely with assigned UWs to coordinate collection efforts on overdue premium. Escalates aged items, as appropriate.
  • Conducts bond number audits monthly and partners with Senior UAs to resolve any discrepancies identified. Escalates aged items, as appropriate.
  • Responds timely to inquiries from internal and external parties and assists with issue resolution.
  • Escalates all issues to Team Lead timely.
  • Performs all tasks with high quality within established service standards.
  • Updates bond configurations, as needed.
  • Communicates with individuals across the organization effectively and develops relationships.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement and provides recommendations.

Required Skills, Key Competencies and Experience:
  • Associate degree or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 2+ years related experiences (Surety, insurance, customer service, processing, etc.).
  • Solid desk management skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including email, Windows, desktop navigation, etc.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • Ability to use a personal computer and other standard office equipment.
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods (80-95%).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Limited travel as necessary and required to perform above functions.
