About the Position: This position is for a Supervisory Facility Operations Specialist, GS-1640-13, and will serve as the Chief of Maintenance at the Illinois Waterway Project Office located in Peoria, Illinois.


Responsibilities
  • Responsible for efficient and economical accomplishment of Section mission through the management of Section activities involving personal work efforts and the supervision/direction of assigned personnel.
  • Actively participate in the review and improvement of work methods, organizational features, and job structuring and promotion of the safety program.
  • Implement local and higher authority established maintenance program related policies and directives related to the mission.
  • Advise on operating program goals and objectives, making decisions on work problems presented by subordinates.
  • Plan and assign work in terms of normal functional responsibilities or special projects.
  • Develop an overall Illinois Waterway Project Maintenance plan, to include a preventive maintenance program.

    • Must possess a valid State motor vehicle operator's license for the class of vehicle being operated based on site specific, job related requirements, and must maintain this license.
    • Drives a personal or government vehicle to the Lock and Dam sites to oversee maintenance activities, investigate tow accidents, and verify engineering reports.

    In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.     Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing supervisory duties, such as performance management and fiscal responsibilities; directing assignments related to the operation and normal maintenance of navigational or waterway facilities and/or lock and dam facilities; and developing and/or implementing policies or procedures as they relate to the mission of an organization. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal Service (GS-12).

    Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
