Job Description

SUPERVISOR, FLUID SYSTEMS

The Fluid Systems Operations team is responsible for commodity-based critical pressurized assets at SpaceX including production critical ground systems, facilities fluids infrastructure, and bulk supply assets. They execute tank farm preventative maintenance plans, ground system rebuilds, fluids system fabrication, and pressurized test asset repairs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure that critical ground equipment and flight hardware interfacing systems are functioning, well-maintained, and operating effectively for efficient production operations
  • Coordinate support for execution of corrective and preventative maintenance plans, coordinating with production teams and end users to ensure work is completed prior to planned due dates for service
  • Ensure operational feedback is provided to maintenance and design engineering to help drive process changes and cut down on non-value-add maintenance/repair work
  • Offer opportunities across teams for technical cross-training, ensure technicians are provided training opportunities when necessary and are accountable for renewing certifications when needed
  • Detail and promote strict safety protocols for hazardous equipment work, LOTO procedure, lifting operations, and oversized tool movement
  • Coordinate with external contractors, commodity supply vendors, and part suppliers to ensure maintenance and operational expectations are met daily. Actively work to reduce dependency on external rebuild/repair support when justified
  • Drive shop improvement projects to help promote effective operations, ensure fast-acting response to common system repairs, and organize line-side and consumable spares hardware as needed
  • Ensure team members understand how to properly pull spares from inventory, consume goods, and can navigate online tools
  • Collaborate with asset owners and end users to configure and maintain automated system issue alerts. Coordinate support for alert response, resolution, and documentation updates
  • Motivate team members to explore outside their comfort zone, be passionate about making existing systems better, and be excited to provide valuable technical feedback to engineering
  • Provide valued technical insight to production teams, help with bettering processes as needed
  • Provide schematic and documentation review to engineering as deemed appropriate, ensure open system work is not approved or executed without buyoff
  • Be very involved in recruitment process for new job openings within the team. Understand where team's operational gaps are and recruit accordingly

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 2+ years of industry experience leading teams, projects, and/or people

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • Analytic thinker that gets to the root of problems and comes up with permanent solutions to remedy issues
  • Detail oriented, organized, and able to demonstrate a high sense of urgency
  • Ability to rapidly change priorities while working in a high-paced, challenging work environment
  • Experience w/ maintaining hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems; experience with control systems and PLC hardware a plus
  • Experience with variety of ground equipment such as tanks, pumps, valves, and power units
  • Experience with inert gases, cryogenics, and purified water systems
  • Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills
  • Intermediate skill level using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook), Smartsheet, Jira and other organizational software

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work at elevated heights occasionally (scissor lifts and articulated boom lifts)
  • Physical effort including standing, lifting, and carrying equipment up to 30 lbs unassisted
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments as needed
  • Must be available to work extended hours and weekends as needed
  • Willing to travel for short trips as needed, up to 10% travel
