Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree from a recognized, accredited college or university.
  • Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) or Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor Intern preferred.
  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) preferred.
  • Valid Texas Certificate as a Professional School Counselor preferred.
  • Previous experience with secondary schools preferred.
  • Group/Individual Counseling experience preferred.
  • Visionary leader in public schools to work collaboratively with diverse students, staff, families and communities to prepare learners for the 21st century.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

School Year 2021-2022/210 Days


SALARY:

$61,929 (IA 3)

Salary Range (based on experience) as set by the Board of Trustees for the school year 2021-2022


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists in planning and developing the school’s education, guidance and counseling program in relation to the needs of the students being served.
  • Assists in classroom and/or behavioral management planning with parents and professional personnel.
  • Uses computers in job-related activities.
  • Provides personal and developmental counseling services through individual and group conferences.
  • Works cooperatively with professional personnel and community resource personnel in the prevention and/or intervention of drug abuse and school dropouts.
  • Provides crisis counseling and/or consultant services.
  • Provides for small groups and programs to emphasize personal and social development; i.e., learning to be responsible for one’s behavior, orientation, effective study methods, stress management, decision making.
  • Consults with the school psychologist on identified students.
  • Explains the role of Substance Use Intervention Counselor to appropriate agencies, the community, and to school staff members – public relations.
  • Reports child abuse cases to the Children’s Protective Services and involves the Youth Service Specialists when necessary.
  • Acts as liaison with all support personnel.
  • Assists in the preparation of written reports or surveys that are required by the local school system and/or the Texas Education Agency.
  • Provides individual guidance programs with emphasis on learning appropriate behavior, and aiding personal and social development.
  • Counsels and serves as a resource person for parents on problems affecting the orderly educational, physical, emotional and social growth of the student.
  • Works cooperatively with and coordinates the use of community referral sources in the prevention and/ or intervention of drugs, school dropouts, runaways, etc.
  • Carries out other guidance responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Guidance and Counseling and/or Principal.
  • Develop and process an Intake form and procedure when students are placed at the ALC campus and follow up with students on their home campus.
  • Develop and assist with the implementation of a Transition Plan for each student returning to their main campus.
  • Work in concert with the YSS Workers assigned to the ALC and the home campuses.
  • Coordinate speakers for group session or general assembly sessions with students.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.
