Job Description

Position Overview

Wellan Montessori School is seeking experienced applicants for a Student Support Services Coordinator and School Counselor position for the 2021-2022 school year. This is a full time position beginning in late August 2021.

The SSSC/School Counselor coordinates a proactive school-wide counseling program that supports the School's mission with regard to students' academic, social-emotional, and character development. The SSSC/School Counselor collaborates with Classroom Teachers, Division Leaders, and other members of the learning support team to plan and implement targeted student support services, develop and deliver developmentally appropriate lessons to support social-emotional learning, and oversee a variety of student-centered experiences, including: standardized testing, next-school applications, student leadership groups, and mentorship programs.

Additionally, the SSSC/School Counselor tracks school-wide data on students' social-emotional learning and oversees the documentation of their progress. When appropriate, the SSSC/School Counselor works with parents to develop strategies to support individual student needs and makes referrals to outside mental health professionals when necessary.

The successful candidate will meet all of the minimum job requirements listed below; possess strong listening and written/verbal communication skills; be highly organized, thorough, and detail-oriented; have an in-depth understanding of child development for ages 15 months to 14 years; be comfortable communicating with parents regularly; and be able to demonstrate sound judgment, sensitivity, and respect for all persons.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Master's degree in School Counseling.
  • Initial or Professional Massachusetts School Counselor License.
  • Experience working with children aged 15 months 14 years.
  • Experience working in a Montessori environment preferred.
  • Letter of interest/cover letter, resume, and at least two references required to be considered for this position.
