SUMMARY:
The Student Nurse Technician supports the patient care team by performing multifunctional activities such as direct patient care (under the direction of a Registered Nurse), day-to-day upkeep of the Nursing Units, and patient discharges.
Entry-level position into Nursing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

Properly identifies and escorts patient to pre-op or pre-testing areas. Obtains patient vital signs. Provides positive patient interaction

Disinfects bed/chair/area/equipment after patient use. Stocks pre-op area with pretesting area supplies. Restocks bedside with necessary items. Stocks blanket warmer. Makes beds and performs other special housekeeping duties as required.
Replaces sharps containers when full. Communicates with Pre-Op/PACU manager if laundry items appear to be over or under stocked. Obtains supplies from stock room as requested
Transports assigned patients throughout all areas of the hospital as directed, to include lifting and assisting from bed to wheelchairs and back as may be required. Assists with patient transfers and discharges, including returning patient belongings and removing equipment from patient area post-discharge.

Identifies and reports unusual occurrences and/or abnormal findings to the patient’s nurse in a timely manner. Observes and reports maintenance defects that need repair, adjustment, or replacement.
Supports other direct caregivers as needed
Performs miscellaneous errands, such as transporting specimens, documents etc.
Performs other patient care activities as needed.
Supports other team members by answering the phone.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Must be enrolled as a student in a RN nursing program and have completed the first clinical rotation.
Proven ability to read and write English, follow written and oral instructions and perform basic mathematical functions.
BLS required within 3 months of hire.
