Germanna Community College is a public, open access institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System with a Fredericksburg Area Campus in Spotsylvania, a Locust Grove Campus, and several off-campus centers. The Student Accounts Manager is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the College’s student accounts receivable and collection efforts; promoting a highly collaborative and engaged service-oriented culture; leading and motivating a team of student financial specialists to ensure students, parents, and staff receive the highest level of customer service.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees student and third-party receivables to ensure timely and accurate billing and collection procedures as governed by Virginia Department of Accounts

  • Communicates billing account information to students and parents as allowed by
  • FERPA
  • Coordinates the daily operations of the student accounts office through supervision, scheduling, and support of staff ensuring a high level of attention to detail and compliance with internal and external rules, regulations, and guidelines

  • Participates in enrollment management activities, including administration of enrollment cancellation for non-payment, tuition payment plans, and distribution of payment information and reminders

  • Ensures key system updates are performed, including changes to billing tables, refund calendars, term fees, item types and payment priorities; ensures accurate and timely billing of tuition and fees to student and third-party accounts; acts as liaison with other business office staff to research and resolve student issues and provides training and guidance on PeopleSoft Student Information System functionality

    KSA's/Required Qualifications
    • A bachelor’s degree in business or accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills

    • Advanced organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload, work independently, and exercise a high degree of judgment to resolve problems

    • Considerable experience with personal computers and standard applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

    • The ability to effectively supervise and delegate to a customer service staff working at multiple campuses, remotely or on site

    • The ability to promote a collaborative work environment, ensuring communication and coordination with stakeholders across all college departments to improve processes


    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience working in a college business office

    • Experience with PeopleSoft applications

    • Experience supervising customer service staff

    • Experience working in a fast-paced environment and working effectively under pressure, at times with short deadlines, and must be able to adapt to changing situations
