Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

  • The Stroke Advanced Practice Provider (APP) for the NJ designated Comprehensive Stroke Center will be a certified Advanced Practice Nurse (APN)/Nurse Practitioner or Physician s Assistant (PA).
  • The APN or PA will provide the following but not limited to: acute stroke patient care management including diagnosis, assessments and documentation, consultations, daily patient rounds, assists with inpatient staff development/education, research trial patient enrollment and management, billing for all payers, collects and maintains quality metrics via national database, and community outreach.
  • APNs will perform according to the Nurse Practice Act of New Jersey and State Board of Nursing; maintain a Joint Protocol with a collaborating Physician for prescriptive authority.
  • PA s will perform under the direct supervision of the attending Stroke Center Neurologist and in accordance with the objectives, policies and procedures of the hospital and the state Physician s Assistant Act.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Masters prepared in Nursing from an accredited program
  • Advanced Practice Nurse License via the New Jersey State Board of Nursing
  • Maintain National Certification AANP or ANCC
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in the state of New Jersey

Or

  • Graduate of an AMA accredited physician assistant (PA) program and licensed by the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners.

And

  • Successful completion of all required orientation and training programs (see Job Function Category)
  • Intravenous therapy
  • Ideal candidates will have minimum of one year of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in an acute care setting; experience with acute stroke and/or neurological patients preferred.
  • CDS and DEA license
  • Proficient computer skills
