Role Overview
We are seeking an Aircraft Loads / Stress Specialist to join our team. You will ideally have a strong fundamental understanding of aircraft structures, load paths, structural analysis, and both hand analysis and FEM. You will be responsible for developing the aircraft level FEM and well as the conceptual and preliminary baselines integration of systems architecture for Overture at Boom Supersonic and support building of a world class team. Role Overview
We are seeking an Aircraft Loads / Stress Specialist to join our team. You will ideally have a strong fundamental understanding of aircraft structures, load paths, structural analysis, and both hand analysis and FEM. You will be responsible for developing the aircraft level FEM and well as the conceptual and preliminary baselines integration of systems architecture for Overture at Boom Supersonic and support building of a world class team. Main Responsibilities:
- Work hand-in-hand with the Chief Engineer, Engineering Team and Program Leadership to architect and design the Overture aircraft
- Lead the development of Lead the trade studies of aircraft structural layout to find the right solution for Overture
- Design (CATIA) high level (low fidelity) and major components (fuselage, wing, inlets etc.) layouts to support the trade studies
- Support manufacturability studies of the structural components
- A Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related experience required
- 10+ years experience in aircraft structural analysis
- Demonstrated experience creating finite element models and analyzing composite and metallic components and structures, including linear, buckling, nonlinear, and modal analysis, preferably using Femap/Nastran
- Experience with industry standard hand analysis techniques such as those found in Bruhn, Niu, Flabel, and CMH-17
- Demonstrated experience pre and post-processing finite element models of composite and metallic primary structures
- Practical experience in key technical discipline; metallic & composite materials, material & processes, load path, stress, finite element modeling
- Part 23 or 25 certification experience
- Familiarity with guidelines for Development of Civil Aircraft and Systems per ARP 4754
- Experience with Product Life Cycle software system management (Enovia, TeamCenter, Jama, 3DS, etc.)
- Problem-solving leadership skills are a must; can lead a team through solving hard, complex, ambiguous technical problems
- Team building communication skills, the ability to interface effectively with different groups internally and externally
- High bar; builds and retains world-class teams
- Engineering Masters
- At least one aircraft development program as a Loads or Stress analysis
- Analysis of composite airframe primary structure, including bonded joints, bolted joints, solid laminates, and sandwich panels
- Experience supporting structural tests and correlating predicted and actual results
- Coupon and element level structural testing experience
- Experience using and/or developing optimization software such as Hypersizer , ASTROS, NeoCASS, ACSYNT, or similar
- Python and/or VBA programming experience
- Excellent leadership skills—able to keep teams moving and motivated
