Headquartered in New York but based around the world, DigitalOcean is a dynamic, high-growth technology company that serves a robust and passionate community of developers around the world. Our mission is to simplify cloud computing for every developer. We are working on solving some of the most challenging and interesting technology projects around, on a scale unmatched by most.

We want people who are passionate about the incredible opportunity for DigitalOcean to contribute to social issues, support communities, and leverage our products & technology for society.

We are looking for our first Strategic Initiatives Director to build and implement new initiatives related to the DO Social Impact team, our social impact customers, and DO's business. Reporting to the Vice President of DO Social Impact, the Strategic Initiatives Director will play a critical role in implementing and scaling multiple DigitalOcean's social impact, sustainability, and ESG programs. This person is passionate about corporate social impact and has knowledge in a diverse range of social impact, employee engagement, sustainability and ESG programs. This person is a strong program manager who can drive impactful results without authority, brings creativity and resourcefulness to the challenge at hand, and is exceptional at engaging internal and external stakeholders.

In this role, you will translate our DO Social Impact vision and strategy into implementable programs that drive both business and social impact goals. You will build operational capacity to bring the DO Social Impact program to life. You will be the "connective tissue" with other DO functions to collaborate effectively and in alignment with DO Values. With your efforts, DO Social Impact will deliver business and impact results, which are focused on the most critical, highest value priorities for the company. If this opportunity sounds exciting to you, we'd love to hear from you!

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Coordinate the execution of new social impact, sustainability and ESG programs for DO Social Impact, in partnership with VP of Social Impact
  • Manage and coordinate high value, cross-functional initiatives and projects with teams across DO (e.g., Marketing, People, Engineering/Product, Infrastructure, Business Ops, etc.)
  • Drive reporting for DO Social Impact Impact on established OKRs to the business leadership (e.g., MBR/QBR reporting) and externally (ESG reporting)
  • Create accountability, tools and systems for effective program management that will be used by the DO Social Impact team
  • Create playbooks and resources for multiple functions at DO to adopt the model of integrated social impact for more cross-functional alignment
  • Partner with the DO Marketing team to support storytelling of our DO Social Impact programs, in partnership with the VP of Social Impact
What You'll Add to DigitalOcean:
  • 30% Program Delivery - You are strong in driving programs that include multiple stakeholders. You can lead without authority. You help teams achieve big audacious goals and adjust nimbly when needed. You are a strong communicator, and bring clarity when there is ambiguity. You report deftly and consistently to business leaders to drive decisions and impact.
  • 30% Entrepreneurial - You have created something from nothing. You have demonstrated the ability to take a concept and create a robust plan, implement, and successfully produce results against the plan. You will do whatever it takes to get the job done and know what it means to be a one-person show when needed (this program is a start-up within DigitalOcean).
  • 20% Cross-functional Engagement - You are an exceptional relationship builder and know the right person to talk to at the right time to get the right asset to solve the problem. You have multiple examples of how you have resolved problems and challenges through creative internal and external cross-functional collaboration.
  • 10% Social Impact - You are passionate about social impact and the opportunity for companies to make a positive impact. You are familiar with CSR and similar models of how companies undertake this work. You have knowledge in one or more areas of corporate social impact (e.g., sustainability, ESG, employee engagement, philanthropy, tech for social good, etc.) and can leverage that experience in this role.
About you:
  • Extensive experience building programs from scratch to define, develop and implement quickly and effectively.
  • Experience setting up and iterating on department level processes and frameworks that measurably improved team performance
  • Ability to influence and build relationships with people across all levels and organizations internally and externally. You can drive outcomes through inspiration and influence.
  • Technical savvy, experience with the cloud and enterprise software.
  • Exceptional knowledge of project management tools & systems to drive programs and achieve outcomes. Exceptional written and presentation skills.
  • Excellent execution skills: a results-driven, detail-oriented, organized self-starter who is a solution-first thinker.
  • Understanding of corporate social impact space (e.g., topics like, sustainability, employee engagement, philanthropy, tech for social good, etc.)
Why You'll Like Working for DigitalOcean:
  • We value development. You will work with some of the smartest and most interesting people in the industry. We are a high-performance organization that is always challenging ourselves to continuously grow. We maintain a growth mindset in everything we do and invest deeply in employee development through formalized mentorship, LinkedIn Learning tracks, and other internal programs. We also provide all employees with reimbursement for relevant conferences, training, and education.
  • We care about your physical, financial and mental well-being. We offer competitive health, dental, and vision benefits for employees and their dependents, a monthly gym stipend to support your physical health, and a commute or internet allowance to make your trips to your office or your desk easier. We offer generous parental leave with transition time built-in upon return to work. We offer competitive compensation and a 401k plan with up to a 4% employer match.
  • We support our remote employee experience. While we have great office spaces in NYC and Cambridge, we're very distributed—we use a number of communication tools to connect across the company—and all remote employees have the opportunity to visit our offices and meet their teams face-to-face at team offsites. We also have an annual company offsite, Shark Week, to get quality in-person time with the entire company at least once a year. We also allow employees to outfit their workstations to meet their needs—whether remote or in office.
  • We value diversity and inclusivity. We are an equal opportunity employer and we do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
  • This is a remote role
  • Salary range of $108,000-$160,000

  • Equity Programs
  • Medical, Dental, Vision offered and costs covered by DigitalOcean up to 90%
  • Gym Stipend of $100/month
  • Internet/Phone Stipend of $200/month
  • 401(k) match up to 4% with no vesting
