Job Description
Responsibilities

Our lab studies the mechanisms by which the autonomic nervous system regulates the heart. We are particularly interested in the role of the autonomic nervous system in the pathophysiology of heart failure, and irregular heart rhythms (arrhythymias). Our group studies neural control of the heart in small animals using the latest techniques in cardiac electrophysiology and neuroscience. Experiments in our animal models involve: (1) surgical dissection in murine models; (2) obtaining hemodynamic, cardiac electrophysiological, and neural data and tissues; and (3) molecular biological analysis of tissues. Working under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, you will assist in Immunohistochemical staining of tissues and assist with collecting samples from animal experiments. Techniques will include: tissue processing and clearing, immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence, microscopy, and data analysis. Any expertise in software for example MATLAB, SCIRun, Gmsh, Paraview, Meshlab, Corview, Seg3D, CARPentry, SolidWorks, Fusion360 will be helpful.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Skills to perform technical procedures in a timely and accurate manner
  • Demonstrated ability to keep accurate records
  • Skills in animal handling and surgical procedures
  • Skills in preparing buffers, solutions, and reagents
  • Knowledge of tissue preparation and specimen handling
  • Skills in basic computer use, Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint
Preferred:
  • Knowledge of immunostaining or immunofluorescence
  • Skill to perform surgical procedures in a lab setting on animals
